Product Description

The Swingle Singers are thrilled to release 'Weather To Fly', the group's first full-length album since 2009. An electrifying set that reflects the excitement of their current show, 'Weather To Fly' captures the best of the group s a cappella repertoire. This is, quite simply, the album our audiences have asked for after every performance, says bass singer Edward Randell. Based in London and touring on four continents in 2013, The Swingle Singers have assembled some of their favourite music from home and abroad. All-vocal arrangements of songs from Turkey, Spain and Argentina sit alongside reimagined British pop from Elbow, Florence Welch and The Beatles. For half a century, The Swingle Singers have pushed the boundaries of what the human voice can achieve. Their vocal agility and blend, combined with captivating showmanship, have thrilled audiences across the globe. Celebrating their 50th anniversary in the 2013-14 season, today s young and gifted Swingle Singers represent the group s evolution from baroque jazz pioneers to contemporary a cappella phenomenon. The group s history is a remarkable tale of renewal. In 1963, American-born Ward Swingle assembled a group of Parisian session singers to sing Bach s keyboard music. The resulting album, Jazz Sebastian Bach, launched The Swingle Singers to fame. Over five decades the group has sustained a level of international popularity beyond its founder s wildest dreams, with each new singer bringing something fresh to the Swingle sound. The Swingle Singers have sung on the world s most famous stages, from Ronnie Scott s to La Scala. They have won 5 Grammy Awards, featured on the soundtracks of Sex and the City and Glee, and made over 50 recordings.

Once again the Swingles have come up with a masterpiece! Amazing re-workings of some of the old favourites, with a nod to their jazz/classical roots, and some brand new arrangements of songs we haven't heard before from them. First class polished performances are the norm from this ensemble which evolves each time a new face appears - each bringing their own influences and challenges for both singer and listener! Looking forward to further evolution in the coming years ...

By The Wolf TOP 50 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 22 Sept. 2013
Format: Audio CD
Since their birth in early nineteen-sixties' Paris The Swingle Singers have
inevitably undergone innumerable lineup changes yet remain one of
the World's most accomplished vocal groups. In their current incarnation
the ensemble's new album 'Weather To Fly' delivers a delightful collection
of thirteen numbers which bear the all the hallmarks of their history brought
bang up to date but continuing to encapsulate all the technical virtuosity
for which they have always been admired. Sometimes slighted for leaning
a little too close to "Easy Listening", these thrilling performances are about
as far from the middle of the road as contemporary vocal music can get.

From the harmonic and rhythmic pyrotechnics of 'Spain'; through the haunting
Arabic cadences of 'Nana'; the breathtaking jazzy reinvention of Beyonce's
'Swingle (sic) Ladies'; the gentle ironies of 'The Diva Aria' (the fearless
coloratura top notes of the soprano soloist are astounding!) to the gorgeous
miniature 'Fugue For Autumn' and "doo-bee-doo" delights of 'Libertango' we
are never less than enchanted by the spectacular prowess of their performances.

For lovers of the human voice and all its wonders this album is a complete joy.

Highly Recommended.

Quite simply the best thing in vocal music out there - imaginative, contemporary and faultless. A must for any vocal music fan

Why this group is called the Swingle Singers beats me. Not like the originals at all. I do not regard progress as being inventing the new to replace the workable and enjoyable old.
