I rarely give five star reviews but Oh my word. Having read this book in one sitting all I can say is amazing. Having a life threatening operation some years ago that could have killed me, I know exactly what it feels like to write your final letter. Fortunately they didn't have to be read. To write such a story, so beautifully is superb and I defy anyone to read this book without crying! Definitely worth a read

This is the first book I have read by Rowan Coleman, I was attracted by the beautiful title, and then by the incredible reviews. Now I know why! We mainly follow the story of Stella, a nurse who works the nightshift in a hospice. She writes letters for patients to leave behind for their loved ones.

Other stories are of Hope, who lives with cystic fibrosis, and the lovely relationship she has with her friend Ben. Also Hugh, who is a recipient of a letter Stella posts for a patient. Then we have the elusive, enigmatic cat who visits the hospice giving love and comfort to those who need it.

To begin with I thought this could be a depressing read but it was completely the opposite, it was actually life affirming. It is a simply told, flowing story, full of charm and warmth. The real beauty is in the letters that are so real and heartfelt, yet uplifting. 5 stars- while not perfect or even unique (this reminded me of Alice Peterson's "By my side" ) it is very special, and tender with beautiful words and imagery about the things that truly matter.

I was eager to read this novel after seeing Rowan Coleman's youtube video about the book. After reading the book jacket I was nervous. It was our Book Club Pick on Facebook. I was thinking is this going to be a book that made me sad and down. However I jumped in and I was hooked. It's not a book that makes you sad. It makes you realise how blessed each moment is. It makes you think about your own life and it's importance.

The easy flow of writing makes you connect instantly with the characters.

I won't spoil. I encourage you to pick this up and relax into. It's worth it and book I will never forget

I really enjoyed this book and found it very moving. Stella works at a Hospice and writes letters for the dying patients to give to their loved ones after they pass. These letters are peppered throughout the story and provide fascinating snapshots of people's lives. The main story follows three sets of characters: Stella and her husband, Vincent, a war veteran struggling to come to terms with a disability; Hope, a CF patient, and her best friend Ben; and Hugh, a museum curator and his new next door neighbours. As the story progresses, we see how the Hospice links them all together.

This was a completely different genre to the books I'm used to reading and so I read it with an open mind expecting it to be as good as the reviews say it is. I wasn't disappointed.
It's a light hearted easy read with plenty of interesting characters to keep you wanting to read more. I enjoyed the letters at the end of each chapter and especially the cat which seemed to link the whole story together, quite amusing! The only disappointment was the amount of printing errors throughout the book. (Missed or incorrect words) This however hasn't stopped me from perchasing several other books by the same author.

I really enjoyed the story. The letters were very moving - poignant and humorous at the same time. The main storyline about Stella and Vincent was heart-breaking and frustrating. I felt like banging their heads together and saying, "Look what's here, right under your nose!" I guess the lesson to be learnt is if you love someone, never give up on him or her.
My only gripe is that there were too many errors running throughout the book. Poor proof-reading!

Lovely unusual and emotional book, despite the sad subject matter. The letters written by the dying really add an unusual dimension to the story, especially when you realise some of them are linked to the main characters. It took me a while to work out why/how Hugh was linked to the main storyline, but his sub plot proved to be quite poignant. Proves that happy endings are still possible amidst illness and loss.
