I bought this book shortly after I qualified as a Mounted Officer during my police service. It became my bible and I learnt so very much from it. It enabled me to get the very best from my remounts. One of the very best chapters is related to to getting a horse to work in an outline and amongst many things it taught me that for a horse to be overbent is just as much an indication of it evading the bit as the opposite profile, something some dressage judges should brush up on! If you are a serious rider you should not be without Herr Burger's masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars You have to truly love horses 11 Jun. 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

This book is written by a man who knows horses from top to bottom and from inside out, plus he clearly loves these magnificent animals. I would recommend this book to anyone who cannot get enough of the wisdom through the ages of the best man a has ever achieved through his relationship with horses. There i s a historical context and a physiological context tht implies a methodology for working with horses that is a perfect balance of science and art. I savored every word and it showed in my riding.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any serious horse rider 8 April 2000
By MA Kinnear - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This book was recommended to me by a dressage judge. He lent me the original German version which I read 4 times in a row before returning it. I then ordered the English translation and read it another 3 times. Every time I did, I learnt hundreds of new things about riding. It is the most amazing riding book I have ever read. The only other one that comes to close to it is Museler's Riding Logic. The author ends the book by saying that he hopes, by writing this book and getting riders to understand them better, he is repaying his horses for serving him faithfully all those years. He has succeeded!
