I just can't put into words how much I loved this book. Olivia Anders moves to Magnolia Springs to open a new branch of Paws for Cause, a shelter that trains dogs to help vets who have returned from war and are struggling with life. August Cotton is a Marine who has recently lost his parents and been left to care for his kid sister and on top of that he's struggling with PTSD.
Olivia wants to help fix August but he just doesn't believe he is worthy of anyone or anything. Both are fighting there own demons but the one thing that is so hard to fight is there deep attraction to each other. It's a long and treacherous road for Olivia and August but together they find The Way Back Home.
This is such a beautiful story that will stay with me forever.

This story is about August Cotton, an ex-Marine who was severely wounded during his tour in Afghanistan. He could not cope and decided to stay away from his family and wanders around the country chasing his demons. He receives a phone call and finds out his parents died from a car crash leaving his much younger sister all alone. Reluctantly he goes home to take care of Bettina, the precocious four year old girl with an adorable lisp.

Then we meet Olivia Anders the owner of Paws for Cause, a charity that rescues dogs from shelters and train them as support dogs for vets with PTSD. Olivia comes across as a very strong and stubborn woman but underneath that tough facade is a broken past and her aim is to fix as many people and animals as she can. Olivia is very passionate and single-minded with her project but when she gets to know more about August she can’t help but fall in love with him. The heart wants what the heart wants, right?

The main focus of the book is about Olivia’s project: giving rescued dogs and veterans with PTSDs a second chance in life and how to deal with mental illness. Starting a project in a small town that turns a blind eye on veterans doesn’t make Olivia’s cause very popular. It’s an uphill struggle for her and the attraction between her and August slowly simmers. Their first meeting didn’t go down very well, sharing a mutual dislike for each other but every day they spend working together draws them closer.

The other characters: Bettina, Josiah, Beau, Dalton, Jude du Pont, Betty the piglet, Zora an ex Military Working Dog and Xena one of the support dogs Olivia trained, make a very interesting and lively menagerie for August and Olivia.

Just freaking awesome!! I got such a hangover from this book. I just wanted to hold onto the story. Keep it pressed to my heart. I honestly didn't read a thing for a few days. I just loved it!

August gets a call whilst he is away telling him the worst news he could receive. After getting injured while on duty for the marines he's lost himself. He spent his days wandering waiting for the time his life would end. Instead he has to return home to look after his little sister. He has no idea what to do with a child. He's still lost himself so he has no idea what to do her.

Olivia arrives in town expecting a warm welcome. She's been invited there to open a branch of Paws for Cause. Her charity set up to help service men and women after they return home from war. She sets them up with a Therapy dog to help them when they suffer flashbacks and be there when they need something to hold onto. The town had recently suffered a loss of a serviceman so Olivia goes to help them. Unbeknownst to her The people who asked her to come have recently passed and their son knew nothing of her arrival. She turns up at the guest house only to be met by the very grumpy and angry ex-marine August. From the start she puts her foot in her mouth by insulting him. Things go from bad to worse and her hopes for helping the town quickly diminish, No one wants her there but she is determined to do her job so she battles on.

Ohhhhhhhh sweet lord the love in this story is blinding! It might not sound it from my quick round up and the blurb but boy does it shine!

This is my first read by this author and it will absolutely not be my last.

There's this slow burn that slowly wraps around your heart until you're completely encompassed in it.

After reading Toward the Sound of Chaos by Carmen Jenner which i have to say was one of my Top Five Reads of 2016. I was jumping for joy when i heard there was to be another book. THE WAY BACK HOME Is a standalone contemporary romance novel and is told in ‘Dual Perspectives’. You do not have to read Towards the Sound of Chaos first as the story doesn't follow on. Olivia's Character is mentioned in the previous book due to her job but that is it. I will say though you will be missing out on an Amazing read if you don't read both of these standalone stories.

Olivia Anders is expanding her non-profit organisation ‘Paws for Cause’. Olivia's organisation pairs up dogs to work as therapy dogs to help and support Marines who have served their country and have come home not as they left. Some due to a disability some suffering with PTSD. Olivia is starting up the new clinic in the town of ‘Magnolia Springs'.

August Cotton is returning home after receiving the news that his parents have been killed, leaving his younger sister alone. August has been roaming from town to town he is a broody troubled war hero. He served in Afghanistan and was honourably discharged, after he lost his leg by an IED. He knows he's in no fit state to care for his sister but there is no way he's leaving her to the care of the state. He's bitter and hurt and is in no mood to deal with the woman that has landed on his door step to live at his family's B&B.

This read will give you so many feels, Carmen Jenner has given us a beautiful read with The Way Back Home and it is so much more than a romance novel. It covers depression, abuse, suicide, and PTSD showing us strength and courage in the hardest of times.
