This book was awarded the prize for Key Stage 1 Non-Fiction in the English Association's English 4-11 Awards for the Best Children's Illustrated Books of 1999.
That aside it's a brilliant book that teaches kids why it's important to clean their grubby little mits before sitting down for dinner etc. I just can't believe the effect it's had on my little lad! From telling porkies about already having washed his hands, he now automatically runs upstairs to the bathroom before dinner without me even asking! What can I say - well worth the money! One thing to add though, if I had noticed that you could buy the whole set of wonderwise books; Wonderwise I would definitely have gone for this instead, as they are all educational books that still come across as a good story, and we've got most of them at home now, but the price of the set is much better than buying them individually!

I bought this book to use with children in play session to teach them about hyigene, which it is perfect for. The pictures are good, and the book allows you to explain some concepts in more detail.

We were given this book as a present and I'm sorry to say that neither me nor my five-year-old can bear to read it more than once. Actually, we didn't manage to get to the end, it's that bad. My son loves being read to, but even he couldn't stomach this book about bodily functions and parasites. It's just too graphic in detail and uses language in a really boring way. It reads like a text book rather than a children's book. Perhaps if it had been written in rhyme and made a bit more funny? As it is, anyone could have written it. Here's a couple of examples: "Gas or wind is quite normal but if you don't go to the loo it can build up and give you tummy ache" and "Tapeworms can grow up to 15 metres long and coil up inside your tummy" If I want to be honest, all this makes me feel really sick. I don't want to freak out my child at bedtime, making him think he's got worms inside him. I think it's a horrible book and I cannot imagine what possessed the person who gave it to us as a present! I was going to sell it on Amazon, but have changed my mind. I don't want to be responsible for some kiddie somewhere out there getting nightmares about tapeworms, so it's destined for the bin. This book should never have been published the way it is. And that's just my honest personal opinion.
