A Warriner to Rescue Her by Virginia Heath

***** 5 stars!!!!

Book Blurb:

Tempted by the damsel in distress!
Captain James Warriner is startled to find a curvaceous beauty caught up a tree in his orchard! Despite his shattered leg, he rescues Miss Cassandra Reeves, then is determined to have nothing more to do with the enticing vicar's daughter.
Except when Cassie seeks Jamie out to apologize, they find themselves persuaded to work together on her storybook. Secret liaisons with the dashing soldier make Cassie wish Jamie would rescue her once more...by making her his wife!

Review:

My Oh My Oh My!!! What a beautiful love story this was.
I thought I had fallen in love with Jack Warriner from the first book of the series but I fell just as hard for Jamie Warriner in this second book.

Jamie an injured soldier fighting his demons meets Cassie the daughter of a tyrant preacher.
They come together with their shared love of writing and painting and spend their afternoons growing ever more closer together and fallen in love with each other.
Though they do have so many misunderstandings between them that all you want to do is bang their heads together.

The story was just so enchanting that I really didn't want it to end, you just knew from the very beginning that Jamie and Cassie absolutely belonged together.

I cannot wait to fall in love with the next Warriner brother in the third book of this series.
Highly recommended read, this lady has become one of my favorite authors and can do no wrong in my eyes.

Move over Heathcliffe there is a new gruff, monosyllabic, tormented hero in town in the form of Captain Jamie Warriner. Oh my word! I was warned I would love him and he has more than lived up to the hype, he really is something special. He is a proud man who after serving his country with courage facing down more horrors than any man should face he is back and he is in pain, not just physically but he is trying adjust to civilian life but like a lot of soldiers today poor Jamie is struggling. I was drawn to him the moment I met him in the previous book “A Warriner to her” there is just something about this gruff but hugely sensitive man, that draws you in. Yes, he may be as stubborn as an OX – as well as built like one – but he has a good and kind heart, who needs a little love.

Our hero is battling unseen demons not just memories of his past as a front line soldier but of his experiences once he was captured all those different traumas shows them self on a daily basis and it is heart-breaking.

On the surface Cassie is a chirpy Lass, on a constant high forever smiling and she constantly babbles. I love how from the moment she sets her eyes on our Jamie she is forever referring to him as “My dashing pirate” or my personal favourite “Galahad”. Cassie holds a deep dark secret, one that she is too ashamed to tell anyone especially Jamie. She is stuck with her evil and abusive father the Reverend Reeve’s; who really is pure evil for a man of the cloth, he is got a seriously nasty temperament and personally speaking he ought to stop preaching at his daughter and the Warriners and drown himself in his own holy water. But then again, that may be too good for him.

A Warriner To Rescue Her is book #2 in the Wild Warriners Regency Romance series. This is the story of Captain James (Jamie) Warriner; injured in the Napoleonic war, James now lives on the family estate in Retford, Nottinghamshire.

When out riding one day he is forced to rescue a damsel stuck in an apple tree. Voluptuous Cassandra (Cassie) Reeves, daughter of the Rev Reeves, is new to the area. On a whim she had climbed the tree looking for apples for her horse.

Unaware of the reputation of the Warriners, Cassie visits them, next day, to apologise. She is warmly welcomed by Letty, Jamie’s sister-in-law, whilst Jamie hides his curiosity in harsh rebuffs. However, a subsequent visit with her “fire and brimstone” Reverend father is received much less favourably and Jamie finds himself hastily evicting the clergyman. Local gossip paints the Warriner family in a very bleak way, and the Reverend is quick to listen and judge Cassie’s new friends.

I really enjoyed this book. Jamie and Cassie both had secrets to overcome before their friendship could finally blossom. I’m glad the horses had star roles too; it added another layer to the budding romance. Another well written and enticing read in this winning series. Recommended to all those who enjoy romance with a Regency theme.
