R. J. Scott has had my attention with this series of Supernatural Bounty Hunters from the first page! Ms. Scott's world building is extremely fascinating, pairing it with all the paranormals she has favored us with makes for a tasty read. To date we have vamps, werewolves, and now Warlocks with a twist of fae and stir a succubus into the fray. It all started with Book #1, A Vampires Contract where we met Micah and Joseph, twin Vampires with very different powers. Micah is being hunted by their Council called the Glitnir were he was charged and convicted of murder.
Connor, a wolf hunter is then sent out by the Glintnir to retrieve Micah and bring him back for his death sentence. This doesn't go as planned as Connor joins Micah as they fall in lust and finally love. The Council is very unhappy, and they send another wolf tracker Declan to bring now both fugitives back and they also send an ace in the hole Levi to accompany him. Levi and Declan have shared a history but when Levi shared his wariness of the Glitnir and the circumstances surrounding his parents death years ago their friendship was lost. Now thrown back together again sparks fly sexually bringing them back to where they should have been. Now the two join Micah and Connor on the trail for a book Joseph is searching for hence book 2, The Guilty Werewolf.
In The Warlock's Secret, the fabulous four find Joseph and Phin and break into the Glitnir Headquaters to find a book the Journal of Days that Joseph is searching for. Joseph has `magic" powers and opens a portal to the room needed to find the book. The guards are coming and Joseph stays behind to save the others. We met Phin in book two and now we learn so much more about him. This story is deeper than the first two and much darker.
We now meet a mighty villain, Councilor of the Fae Alliance, Ludvik Peitrol. He has magic as well and wants Joseph to admit he shares the same powers. Joseph is tortured without mercy by this man. Will Joseph break? Can he withstand the pain? The best part of this book is the love story starring Phin and Joseph. For me their sexy, steamy seduction was majick. The series is growing and getting better book by book and so we wait for the next sequel to this adventure.
R.J. Scott has truly written one heck of an action adventure....The scenes are filled with epic adventures, built over the threat of losing someone in an instant. Bringing in the black magic and the villains it would be a great adventure in itself, then throw in the hott guys and the hotter sensual scenes this series is smokin'.
I have no idea how long we will have to wait for the next, but I have to put myself on automatic re order for this one...

While each of these books focuses on a particular couple within the complicated world of vampires, werewolves, elves, incubi, blood demons, and fairies; the larger issue is the resistance movement within this world whose goal is to clean out the corruption of Glitnir - the political center and controlling power. The expanding band of idealistic supernaturals - and their romantic interrelationships - is made slightly confusing by the fact that they all seem to be of of Celtic descent and, in spite of having different supernatural powers, all seem to be young men who appear mortal. And, to add yet another layer of complexity - only certain members of this world have magic, and that appears to be a random gift.
It took me a while to remind myself who everyone was and who was in love with whom before the story began to make sense this time around (after only a month or so since I'd read the last volume). But once I did, I got fully caught up in the narrative, in which magic, prophecy, idealism and love are ingredients that make for a rich stew of action and romance.
Can't wait to see what happens next.
As we start the story, vampires Joseph and Micah, along with the incubus Levi, have crossed the portal into Glitnir looking for evidence of the evil at the heart of the High Council. They discover a journal and suspect it's the one mentioned in the ancient prophesies but before they can delve further they are discovered and Joseph is captured by Councillor Ludvik, of the Fae Alliance. Suspected of being a magic user, Joseph is horribly tortured in an effort to get him to reveal his powers. Phin fearful of what Joseph is enduring at the hands of the High Council travels into Glitnir with Levi to rescue him.
Joseph and Phin have a history, an animosity born from their forbidden love. As magic users they are forbidden to be together, so they both tried to find love elsewhere. Joseph with the human Ethan and Phin with the Blood Demon Asher, but all is not what it seems.
Can Phin help Joseph heal from the torture he endured, and can they put the past behind them and work together to bring an end to the corruption of Glitnir? As the Journal of Days is opened, secrets and a surprising twist is revealed.
I have always found the RJ Scott's writing descriptive and the scene where Joseph is having nightmares while being tortured is superbly written, as are the dream walk sequences from Phin's perspective, they told us so much about Joseph and Phin, the kind of men they are, who, and what matters to them most. I loved both characters but Phin was my favourite, he was hurt and angry when Joseph chose Ethan over him and lashed out by choosing to be with Asher, a Blood Demon, and while he cares deeply about Asher Joseph is his true love.
The world building in this series is superb. The plot keeps taking new turns, it's like being in a maze, never knowing in which direction the plot will go next, nothing is predictable, you never know when the bit you've just read will morph into something really important, it keeps the reader hooked and interested. In The Warlocks Secret things are heating up now, sides are being drawn, decisions being made and plans set in motion.
I adore this series and eagerly await each new book and highly recommend it for anyone who loves epic fantasy novels filled with heroes and villains and an intensely woven plot.

Overall Series Review:
This is an overall series review as you really can't read just one. Each book may center on a different couple but each is just another piece of the puzzle that is Supernatural Bounty Hunters. The mystery behind the vampire twins, Joseph and Micah, quest for peace leads us on a journey of blood, deceit, death, and love. Another great world created by RJ Scott that brings you a little bit of everything and makes for a great Halloween read. Who am I kidding? It makes for a great read anytime of the year.
Joseph is hunted because he's has powerful magical abilities that are outlawed in Glitnir. He is frantically searching for a book with information that should turn the tide once and for all.
Saving others from capture, the vampire is caught, beaten and tortured repeatedly. The only one who can save him now is the son of the Elf King, Orophin `Phin' Tiwele, and Joseph's longtime lover. Phin is on the run from his own people, but he will do anything to save the man he loves. No matter the cost Phin will rescue him. The Underground needs Joseph, Phin needs him more.
Author R.J. Scott creates an intricate world within The Warlock's Secret where friends and foes unknowingly stand side by side. In a place filled with every kind of being there are life threatening decisions to make, suspenseful moments, and mysteries to solve. The Supernatural Bounty Hunter series is fascinating with its intricate storyline, however it must be read in order because there are too many characters and subplots. A taut drama and fast paced plotline, The Warlock's Secret challenges and thrills.
