I bought this book with a few preconceptions, I thought there'd be bits on Walt Disney and then it would mostly move onto the films (this being because I bought it in a Disney store where it was displayed with many other books like that), how glad I am that my preconception was proved wrong.

The author of the bio, Bob Thomas, has done a wonderful job of presenting the reader with the background of Walt Disney starting right with his parents emigrating to America and then following Walt's life as he moved back and forth various US states and then the development of what has become one of the world's most admired companies, right from starting in a small garage.

It shows how hard it was for Walt Disney to establish himself as a filmmaker and then to get his company noticed. What I loved about it was how Thomas displays Disney's passion for his cartoons and films, you certainly look at Disney films and the Walt Disney company with a different perspective after reading this, if there are any other Disney freaks like me then you're going to become even more obsessive after reading this.

Recommended for those wishing to know more about Walt Disney and the roots of the company, you won't be able to put it down!

I am a self-confessed Disney nut and therefore any material on the man and the magic I will probably enjoy.
This book was a brilliant insight into the man behind the magic and was very much worth a read by anyone even if you are not a Disney fan.
My only criticism was that the book appeared rushed during WD later life and I would have enjoyed learning more during this period, i.e. the time leading up to WDW Resort in Florida.
Even so, well worth the money

Drawn largely from interviews with one hundred or so family, friends, and co-workers, this biographical sketch allows Walt Disney to shine as the wonderfully imaginative innovator that he was. Bob Thomas creatively transfused enough quotes and facts to draw the reader into the picture. It is quite literally the best biography I have ever read--and this, coming from a lover of biographies.

By reading this book - you will learn an awful llot about the man and the company he founded. The book is easy to read and has a nice, but if all too small, picture section.
I have reviews that this is a little one sided but it has drawn on hundreds of sources and uses offical materials extensivly.
I am a true Disney fan and will therefore enjoy most Diosney related books but this is good for anyone with an interest int eh name and his making.
Go, on read it!

I believe this book is approved by the Disney Corporation as I bought it in Disney World and at the time (Christmas 2003) it was the only biography available in resort.

It is truly brilliant. It massively enhanced my visit, and subsequent visits to the parks. It gives you an understanding of how and why the place is so magical. When you can understand the massive thought process behind the rides, they stop being just rides and you start seeing them as the works of art that they are. This book is however a million miles away from a park guide type of book. It charts his life from beginning to end going into great detail about the fascinating relationship between Walt and his brother Roy, without whom Disneyland almost certainly would never have existed. An easy read and difficult to put down. Easily the most inspiring book I have ever read and I have spent the last five years trying to find a biography that can give me the same `book high'.

This is not a book you are going to read to your kids but if you are remotely interested in; the Disney parks and resorts or everything that is positive about the `American Dream' then this is the book you will remember for the rest of your life.

There are probably few equally as inspiring individuals as Walt Disney. However, having an inspiring subject is only half the battle. I have read biography's of great men and had to put them down disappointed. This is not one of those. Bob's writing draws you in to the story of Walt Disney. It is full of facts as you would expect, but it is the way that some of Walt's story telling magic has rubbed off. This book is a must for anyone interested in the life of Walt Disney. Thank you Bob!

A very good insight into the life of Walt Disney.

It was particularly interesting to learn of the path that Walt and his company took from the very beginning to reach the success we know of today, particularly with some of the movie failures which are now recognised as Disney classics.

I would have been interested to read a little more about the creation of Walt Disney World which came to the end of Walt's life, but a very good read for any Disney fan interested in learning the back story.
