This guide is an introduction to one of Europe's finest mountain ranges. It offers suggestions for 170 walks, multi-day tours and moderate ascents of some of the principal summits of the Central or High Pyrenees. It also includes a summary of the long-distance trails through the Pyrenees, the GR10, the GR11 and the Pyrenean High Route between the Cirque de Lescun and Andorra, one of the most challenging and rewarding mountain treks of all. The active walker, trekker and climber is spoilt for choice, for there is enough scope in the Pyrenees to fill a lifetime of holidays with a host of experiences, no matter what your degree of commitment. There are exquisite valleys and passes to wander day after day, and summits of 3000 metres and more within the reach of most hill walkers. Since the first edition appeared in 1978, "Walks and Climbs in the Pyrenees" has become accepted as the authoritative guide to the range, and this new full-colour edition incorporates many changes and additions.

The book contains descriptions of many walks, but no maps actually showing the routes. I find that incredible for a walking book. All you get is a general map of the various areas, with just numbers showing the area of each walk - no actual line showing the walk at all.
Then the walks themselves - clearly some are intended to join up with other walks, but there is nothing indicating how this happens, so you have to read all the detail, work out where the walks go, and finally see which ones join up.
All in all, thoroughly disappointing. We just wanted some walks to do for a couple of days we are spending in the Pyrenees.
I am now going to find another walking book of the area, and hopefully find one which does include maps of the routes.
