After meeting Greta Garbo at a party in the early 1960s, Raymond Daum was invited by the actress to accompany her on strolls around Manhattan. The two became close friends and at the end of each stroll Daum began to keep notes of Garbo's comments about everything from life in the city to how to make coffee. This book is a record of their ten years of walking together, with Daum's reminiscences of the star's inimitable conversations linked by Vance Muse's biography of Garbo's life and work. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

And the way it is constructed is very scattered, I do not like the way it's put together. There are stories on one page that extend to the next but you aren't sure who wrote what, or where it came from, or at least not easily. It didn't flow right for my taste. It took me a minute to realize he put up these stories from other sources, then added what is apparently, stuff Garbo said in another font in the middle of the pages, several times on some pages, none on others. And you are supposed to figure it out because the font is changed. Pictures, not that many, are nothing that new. I was hoping for something really special here. Disappointed. :(
The only thing I was dissapointed in was the added shipping cost. I had gotten my order up to the amount required for free shipping and it wasn't until the end of my order that I was notified that not all suppliers agree to this offer.
Please be sure to read the fine print to see if the supplier you slect participated with Amazon's promotions of free shipping.
Other than that, I was very pleased with my purchase.
The very private Garbo said, "I've always wanted two lives - one for movies, one for myself." While Walking With Garbo contains quite of bit of biographical information, beautiful photographs, and interesting trivia and quotes about Garbo in relation to her film career, what I found most fascinating was the look this book gives into Garbo's private life, her life after her film career had ended, her likes and dislikes, her habits, her sense of humor, her very human longings, her observations of the anonymous others who were so busy observing her. The author extensively quotes from conversations with her, and getting to know a bit about the private Garbo was fascinating. Unlike other books I have read about her, this book does not dwell on Garbo's sexuality, which I found refreshing and which is one of the things I most appreciate about this book.
I found this book to be very well written and a joy to read. It is one of my favorites, and in my opinion, it is worthy of Five Stars.
