'The Walking Dead' is the ongoing saga of a sheriff's deputy who wakes up in hospital after being shot, only to find himself bang smack in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. He decides to find his family, leaves town and joins up with a group of survivors who are trying to find a safe place to rebuild their shattered lives, away from the undead hordes that now roam the world.
The series works on several levels. Obviously; it is a horror thriller, but it is also a sort of twisted post apocalypse soap opera, as the characters are all very well written and three dimensional, and the interaction between them is disturbingly credible. It's also gory as hell for tv show.
The highest compliment I can pay to 'The Walking Dead' is that it's pretty much as good as anything George Romero did. If you're a zombie nut (like me), then it's an absolute must have.

The Walking Dead, is without doubt one of the greatest shows on Television at the moment.
It follows the lives of the survivors of a zombie apocalypse; a mixed bag of people that have to somehow gel in order to survive and look out for each other, though tensions are often high and friendships pushed to the limits. And as the series progresses, the threat for survival doesn't only come from the Walking Dead. The series is one of tragedy, hope and often very tense to watch, with surprises along the way.
The scenes of devastation and bloodshed do reflect how bad things would be if such tragedy would happen to the planet we live upon.
The zombies are I'm proud to say, Walkers, not like the fashionable running ones that many latest zombie movies have injected in to them in order to up the tension. And in the Walking Dead, the Walkers are often gruesome and full of suprises, proves they don't have to run to frighten you.
The Walking Dead, a Zombie series, that will take you through every emotion and that will grow on you. A series that must not be missed, long may it continue.

Brilliant series watched it all in a week! And I work full time so that's an achievement for any series to hold my attention. If you loved 28 days/weeks later you'll love this. But Andrew will always be egg to me. (accent threw me a bit for awhile ;)

This is the best series I've seen for a long time, it grips you from the beginning which I wasn't expecting it to, sometimes the first episode of a new show can be slow but this was amazing I came away with mouth open! Couldn't wait to watch more, am now watching season 3 as & when it's on, I'd recommend the box set so you can watch one after the other. Truly great!

I was a bit reluctant to watch this show at first, as I'm usually not really into the whole zombie thing. I am glad, however, that a friend recommended this to me over and over again until I couldn't resist anymore.
The show itself is really well written, the story keeps on developing (unfortunately so do the walkers) at a nice pace. Yes, there are a lot of really gory moments, but it's not the show's main focus.

There are TONS of extras on both seasons that are worth watching. There are only two minor glitches: the picture quality on the DVDs could be better, seems a bit too grainy (and no, it's not my TV system) - but maybe that was intended to give the show a more "raw" quality?

Also, what bugs me a little is that the women on the show haven't really kicked ass yet. They come across a little bit too one-dimensional sometimes (the ladies take care of the social side of life, the men go out hunting and killing). I'm hoping season 3 will focus more on the ladies and make them stronger.

The Walking Dead is one of the greatest series I have seen. Some great characters that you actually care about. Plus some great characters that you will hate. All superbly acted by the brilliant cast. As for the zombies, they are awesome. The make up on them is superb. Great storylines and alot of tense and suprising moments. This could have easily gone down a very predictable path baring in mind the subject matter and the recent oversaturation of zombie films(some of which have been truely awful). However "The Walking Dead" has avoided that and comes up aces all round. My favourite character has to be Daryl Dixon played brilliantly by Norman Reedus, who prior to this had only seen as a boyfriend character to Paige in "Charmed". After this though I think we will be seeing alot more of him,the guy is truely awesome.

Very well done. Sheriff Rick Grimes emerges from a hospital coma to discover the world is not as he left it. Zombies are on the rampage, craving human flesh. He is fortunate indeed to track down the small group of survivors containing his wife Lori, son Carl and best mate Shane. From now on, the series dwells on their struggle to cope.

Disturbingly the title refers not to the zombies, but to the humans. With the odds against them so great, surely their days are numbered....

Not for the fainthearted. The makers are determined to see how far they can go, and have been amazed at how much they could get away with. Often the aim is "maximum gross" - as when guts are pulled out from a zombie to determine if he has eaten a little girl who has gone missing.

The series, though, is far more than a gore-fest. In every department it contains much to impress.

The scripts are intelligent and delve deeply into the characters and the moral issues that emerge. Killing zombies is fair enough, but what about humans who pose a real threat? (Some of those roaming in packs are very nasty pieces of work.) Nobody here is one dimensional. Heading the strong cast is Andrew Lincoln (yet another Brit convincingly American in a big budget series). Desperately aware of his limitations, Rick strives to do his best - his anguish palpable when decisions do not always work out. Some of the group rise to the challenges (a few unexpectedly); others completely crack up under the strain. Several will perish - one or two not particularly missed, but the loss of some very greatly felt. (The demise of a major character comes as a real shock, the credits that follow movingly without music).
