As an historical fiction writer, Margaret Lake has demonstrated her talent for transporting her readers to another time and place. Now, in this anthology, we see a whole new range of entertaining stories in new genres. I urge you to take a walk in the woods with Margaret Lake. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meet some nice characters 26 April 2011

This must be a good time and place to say that I love this book.
A Walk In The Woods

Margaret Lake is one of my favorite authors, so I am predisposed to like her work.
I started to appreciate her writing with her Historical Romances. Because I really like historical novels.

But Margaret also has been writing these little Gems - stories about people told mostly from a female's point-of-view. Most of the stories are in the past - like the beach tale during perhaps World War 2. But most of the time the period really doesn't matter. Margaret manages to evoke a "feeling" that is just right. Again I would mention the NJ shore tale.

But these are stories about people who have issues - other than how to get past the wyvern in the current World of Warcraft session. They are dealing with other people (how quaint).

So let me discuss these stories:
A Walk In The Woods - Yeah you just gotta read Matthias' story for yourself.

Sweet Savage Charity - I read this novelette before. And I must say that it reminds us what a woman's lot was in the days of the Puritan settlements in the New World. And we meet Charity, who you are just going to love.

Grindel's Tale - There is more waiting in the woods for Megan than just pretty trees.

Only In My Dreams - Another Novelette and one that I had also read before. So re-reading this story was to visit an old friend, because you can't help but like Delia - trust me.

Sir Dragonbreath - An endearing story of two souls meant for each other.

Of Love And War - Now this is the Novelette about the NJ shore that I spoke about in the first paragraphs. You cannot get more "real" than this. And with a surprise ending that will make everyone happy.

A Slice of Life - Now I thought that Delia was my favorite Margaret Lake short fiction character. But now it is Gracie. I would love to describe her change from shy to not-shy. And why. But that is what the story is about. Ms. Lake has crafted another delightful person.

Get the book.
Read it - you WILL enjoy it.

Just sayin.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Charming and enjoyable 7 May 2011

Take a little time and enjoy these sweet stories! I found them to be a nice way to spend an afternoon. In my opinion, the author saved the most precious story for last- it really demonstrated the true meaning of love and family. There was one story I didn't care for as much as the others; even the one I liked the least was still decent reading.

I'm usually not a big fan of short stories: by the time I've developed any feeling for the characters, the story is usually over. Not this time. This author has a talent for giving a quick sketch that somehow seems complete, by using the right details and filling in the right blanks. I'm happy I bought this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great characters! 4 Jan. 2012

This is not my genre of choice to read, but I have to admit I was hooked with each story. Even when the story itself didn't grab my attention, the characters did, and I had to see what happened. Since these are short stories (to go with the last story, which is a novella), they're easy to read in one sitting. If you have a romantic bone in your body, do yourself a favor and give this one a shot!

4.0 out of 5 stars New experience 13 Jan. 2012

I am always looking for something new and different.
Certainly found it in this book. Very interesting and
and sometimes a bit risque stories. I really enjoyed
them all, some more, some less, but a recommended
read for adults.
