After a year that she would rather forget (and by the time you have read her story you will realise why) Olivia is home and facing a future that she just doesn’t seem to have much enthusiasm for. I hate the term “broken” but she has her reasons for feeling that, that is the only word to describe her current state of mind but was being home going to help or exacerbate the problem…only time would tell. I liked Olivia, she was the sort of woman that you just wanted to take under your wing and befriend. Yep she jumped in to things with both feet and at a pace that was probably a tad more frantic than she needed. There were occasions where I just wanted her to slow down.

There is nothing not to love about Nate, he was a great guy, one that while he accepted his responsibilities with little if any reservation, I could almost feel the weight of expectation that bore down on him. His family took up much of his time but this super smart and sexy man took it all in his stride. There was so much going on underneath the surface with Nate that I was sure that he had to reach his breaking point fairly soon, I was worried that he was going to have to lose himself in order to keep everyone else happy.

The story was effectively told from both points of view but at times I will admit that it wasn’t exactly clear who was talking, they seemed to morph into being “them” really quickly and I would have liked a little more of them as individuals first. But that isn’t to say that I didn’t like who they were I did, I thought they made a super couple, I just thought they hit the ground running and the story never seemed to take the opportunity to breathe.

The author was willing to use the characters to tackle some situations that while true to life, for some reason I didn’t expect to see in the story and that was a pleasant surprise, this took a good hard look at some of the tougher situations in life.

An easy but effective read that was really enjoyable.

Waiting to Breathe is a lovely first book in the Waiting Duet series by Alyson Reynolds 0 it can be read as a standalone. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. It was a great NA romance, I liked the characters, the plot and it kept my interest throughout. Young adults would particularly like this story I think. The pace to the story was good along with the development of the characters. There were maybe a few parts that were predictable but Olivia’s secret was a good twist in the story. I think that the author did a really good job with the emotional and more sensitive parts to the story and I felt that they were portrayed well.
The story is about Olivia and Nate. After a time travelling following a difficult period in her life Olivia has decide to join her twin brother Finn at college. Nate is Finn’s best friend and fraternity brother. It’s not long before Nate is captivated by Olivia but she sees herself as broken and finds it hard to let people in. She just wants to start over with no complications! Nate desperately wants to break down Olivia’s walls and for her to let him love her.
I would imagine that there are many people who can relate to what Olivia went through in this story and I have to say I thought that the author wrote about it really well. After her secret is revealed I think you get a different feeling for her, I know my mind definitely changed about her after. I think that having some of the book written from Olivia’s POV really helped as we were able to see why she did what she did and I for one was definitely able to sympathise with her.
I really liked Nate’s character. He may have been popular; a ‘golden boy’ on campus, but the way he was with Olivia was so sweet.

Olivia has finally returned home after going through a awful year, she has been through so much pain and had to make really hard decisions which will always be with her so with this she consider herself broken and there's no turning back and being her old self to much as happened. She wants to keep her secrets to herself so this means keeping people at arms length and not letting anyone in even Finn her twin brother don't know some things about her. Olivia just wants to put her head down and study but that all goes out the window when she meets her brothers friend and team mate Nate. When Nate first sets eyes on Olivia its instant love he wants her, he knew of her as Finn talked about her and even seen photos but it didn't do her justice she's breath taking he wants to get to know her date her protect her he soon realise that Olivia has her walls up but he's determined to get through them even if he has to be just friends with her at first to earn her trust then he will make her his. Will Olivia let Nate in? Will she share her secrets? Will Nate handle her past?
Wow this novel is beautiful I was hooked right from the start the way its written it really pulls you in. Got to say I absolutely loved Nate he's such a sweetheart its a nice change the main hero not being a player and arrogant cause he certainly isn't either of them he's the perfect book boyfriend good looking and a heart of gold couldn't ask for more, Olivia is a beautiful heroine she may come across as vulnerable but she is strong and passionate after experiencing what she's gone through you will totally understand why I love her so much she is amazing a fighter. I would definitely recommend this novel its flirty, sweet, hot and heart breaking its one huge emotional roll coaster which you will not be disappointed to be on!
