Transform your Smartphone into a powerful cycling computer with the Wahoo Blue SC for your iPhone 4S and newer models, and select Android devices. The Wahoo Blue SC connects wirelessly via Bluetooth Smart (4.0) to your smartphone and tracks your cycling speed, pedaling cadence, and distance through the free Wahoo Fitness App, and other popular iPhone Apps such as Cyclemeter, Strava, MapMyRide and Runtastic Road Bike. The Blue SC mounts on the rear chain stay and uses spoke and crank magnets to track bike speed and pedal rotations per minute.
Precision Speed, Cadence, and Distance Measurements
GPS speed and distance data can be inaccurate and unreliable. The Wahoo Blue SC measures cycling speed, distance traveled and pedaling cadence based on actual tire and pedal rotations and sends this data to your smartphone app in real time. Your smartphone is now a viable replacement for an expensive bike computer.
Connect with Popular Apps
Watch your cycling stats in real-time as you ride with the free Wahoo Fitness App for iPhone and Android. Additionally, the Blue SC is also compatible with other top cycling apps for the iPhone such as Strava, Runtastic Road Bike and Mountain Bike, Cyclemeter, and MapMyRide.
Upload and Share Cycling Data
The Wahoo Fitness App allows you to upload your ride data to popular training websites such as TrainingPeaks, MapMyRide, Nike+, GarminConnect and Strava so you can analyze and track your fitness over time. You can also email data files to coaches and friends.
iPhone and Android Compatibility
This device works with the iPhone 4S and newer, iPod Touch (5th generation), iPad (3rd and 4th generations), and select Android devices with Bluetooth 4.0 and the 4.3 operating system and newer.
How It Works
Installation of the Blue SC is an easy five-minute process, with step-by-step instructions available on wahoofitness. com.

This speed/cadence sensor does all I want to do after interfacing with my BikeBrain app (by far the best of 3 others I've tried!) on my iPhone 4S.
The only reason for rating it one less star than max is that the instructions weren't entirely clear about the positioning of the two magnets on the wheel spoke and the pedal respectively. Both magnets have to be within under a half-centimetre from the sensor itself: easy to achieve in a horizontal plane by sliding the sensor along the chain stay forwards or backwards until the terminals (marked, but not too clearly) on the sensor are opposite the magnets. However, this still leaves the magnets over 2 cms away from the sensor, since the distance between the pedal on one side and the wheel spokes on the other is of course substantial! I have tilted the sensor by rotating it round the chainstay until the magnets come within a half-centimetre of the sensor, and everything works as it should.
The fixings supplied with the sensor can be tightened enough so that the sensor, although not vertically positioned, keeps at the angle I set it to, so all's well; and I suspect that it would work even without the 'rotation' I described; I just wish that it was made clear in the instructions!
It's now Sept 2014 and the hardware has failed after 11 months' use. Wahoo helped me diagnose the fault from the symptoms, assured me that a replacement had been despatched for delivery within 10 days-- and just a week later it arrived, shipped from the USA. Wonderful service!
It's now Sept 2015 and the hardware has once again failed. I've contacted Wahoo and they're sending a replacement. The service is magic; now all they have to do is tweak the design so that the product lasts longer than 12 months! (The problem this time is the same as before: the sensor loses contact with the software, reporting a low battery level even when tested with a brand-new battery at peak performance as tested by an avo-meter; physical installation is fine; the software can't find it when it's deleted and reinstalled; this is true of the Wahoo Fitness App, and two other apps I tested it on.)
So, one star less, but still 4 stars for being a good product and very good service.
The fault in this device lies in the physical fixings. First, the sensor that goes round the pedal crank sometimes 'walks' along the crank, meaning you lose cadence. Secondly, the device itself fits on either by elastic bands or by cable ties. I used the cable ties, and tightened it as much as possible - yet it still moves, particularly if I go over a bump. I did tighten them as much as they would go - but the obvious answer is, when you fit it, don't cut off the ties too close to the body. Leave enough so that you can grab the tie with a pair of pliers and tighten it still further.
All in all, I'd recommend this if you are interested in accurate speed and cadence data.
I've mounted the magnets as close to the sensors as I can get without them hitting, but this has made no difference. A new battery didn't make any difference either. Overall, they do work and I can generally put up with the flaky feedback. But for the price I can't give it more than three stars.
Pretty poor instructions with the box.
