Product Description

Product Description

"The Wahoo Fitness Blue HR heart rate monitor is the world's first Bluetooth Smart heart rate monitor made for the iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 4S, new iPod Touch (5th generation), iPad (3rd and 4th generations).

Wahoo has made it their goal to demystify heart rate training because there's no quicker way to see results than to integrate a heart rate monitor into your workouts. Wahoo's proprietary Burn and Burst Heart Rate Training Plans are only found in the free Wahoo Fitness App. Burn plans help you shed pounds, and Burst plans help you shed minutes. And both help you do it faster by training smarter. No Zones. No Math. Just two simple choices to help you reach your goals faster. Wahoo Fitness's in-house physiologists have taken the traditional ""five-zone approach"" to heart rate training and reduced it to two key heart rate numbers. The Burn, which is the heart rate at which your body utilizes fat as the primary fuel source; and The Burst, the recommended heart rate that should be maintained for short durations to improve speed and performance. Wahoo has created Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Burn and Burst training plans customized to your individual skill level and fitness goals.

I've bought to be use specifically with iphone 4s and I'm not disappointed. It is lightweight, nicely and tight fitting around chest, but not uncomfortable. When running you forget quickly you have it on. I have never had problems with connection with iphone 4s, once set up for the very first time it keeps connection on, just make sure your bluetooth is switched on. I've used it for MyMap app. at first, but then switched to Runmeter which i find more useful. Highly recommended for serious runners and beginners.
Delivery quick and without fuss.

Since using my iPhone 4S with various running apps to plot pace and distance it made sense (to me) to integrate heart rate monitoring instead of using my watch with HR. This device links up with a number of popular running apps and I've tried it with Runkeeper, iRunner, Endomondo, runtastic pro and Runmeter. It was easy to pair with the phone and software and has worked brilliantly.

I use this linked to my iPhone 4s and cycle meter app. Works great whether out walking or pounding the hills on my mountain bike. Rather than wear a watch (used to use heart monitor watches) thought this would work better, I was not wrong.

Would recommend the device.

This is an update. Early in 2015 the device began to stop working. On looking inside battery, thinking a quick replacement would sort it out, I found that the housing was all corroded. Since then the item has failed to work.

I was going to by a wrist watch heart rate monitor but as I had an iphone I thought I would give the Wahoo bluetooth belt a whirl and I'm very pleased I did. So very easy to set up. Download the free Wahoo fitness app put the belt on, go to the settings and add the heart rate monitor and boom you're off. The app is very cool it saves your workout stats and you can email them to your personal trainer if you have one! I have tested the accuracy of the belt against the heart rate monitors in the gym and its spot on.

I was extremely pleased with this and found it very reliable. But despite being careful to remove the main unit from the strap after using it and giving time to dry out after about 2 years the battery contacts corroded and I can't get it to work any more.

But even after 2 years of use there was no sign of any problem with the actual strap that comes into contact with the chest.

In the past I have used the myTREK Training Pulse Rate Monitor HRM and following that the new Scosche Bkuetooth HRM, the Rhythm, not yet available from Amazon. Both these devices were good whilst they worked but all failed after about a month and had to be exchanged multiple times. So I was hopeful that this new Bluetooth device might work better.

The Wahoo Blue uses the new Bluetooth 4 radio which is identical to the older Bluetooth 3 but uses far less power, important to mobile phone users using their devices to track long runs or exercise sessions. Only the iPhone 4S and 5 are supported as yet with few apps capable of reading the signal. So far no Android devices are supported but newer ones, such as the LG Google Nexus 4 8GB Smartphone Black Sim Free do have Bluetooth 4 onboard and so hopefully it may work with them in the future.

In use I found the reception to be unreliable and episodic in nature, fine when it worked but prone to dropping out. The belt itself is easy to fit, comfortable enough and sits well once in place but I note that at least one other user here has reported signs of wear with sustained use. As well as the Wahoo iOS app there are a variety of other apps, free and paid for, that the Wahoo will work with but not all apps that worked with earlier models will support this new unit.

The Good
Uses low power Bluetooth 4
Comfortable in use
Can be used with various iOS apps

The Bad
Bluetooth 4 is not widely supported yet
Irregular and unreliable connection status
Works with few mobile phones or apps
No Android support (yet)
Belt might be too small for larger users
Doubts over the long term durability of the strap

I use the RunKeeper fitness app on my iPhone 5S (64) in Space Grey and so decided that to get a fuller picture of my workouts that I needed a heart rate monitor. The sensor comes ready fitted with a battery. You need to adjust the strap to fit your chest. Switch on the Bluetooth and you're set to go. There's a Wahoo utilities app that lets you test the sensor is working correctly by displaying your current heart rate. This is also good to use if you want to know your resting heart rate.

I assume the sensor is giving an accurate reading of my heart. The readings are as I'd expect them to be at my current level of fitness.

one of three chest straps I now own - sadly all different systems. This one I used in conjunction with the Wahoo Fitness app for my iPhone 5. It connects via bluetooth - and you don't even have to pair it. The pairing is automatic and instant when I start the app. Throughout my rides it always maintains connection. In the gym I have even walked away and back to my phone momentarily and it always works. The important thing is that you can wear it, link to it, and then do your workout forgetting about it. Very reliable.
