It's a big trail and error thing here, though up to now no errors! Also it doesn't steam up everywhere but warms the kitchen nice. So glad I bought it.
It's so easy to prepare and load in the ingredients in the morning and then just forget about it until evening comes. I've tried beef, lamb, pork, and chicken recipes so far, and all have turned out very well indeed. The meat is always meltingly tender, and the vegetables are cooked just fine. I've learned to use not too much liquid (about 300 ml) since all liquids are retained in the pot.
The 3.5 litre size is good for two nights for two hungry adults(I like to prepare enough for two meals while I'm at it) although there's room for five portions if needed.
Clean-up is also very easy since foods don't bake on to the container. Altogether it's a great product that I'd highly recommend.
Such a shame to read about the apparent design issues with this slow cooker, namely the control knob falling off! Mine has been solid for 2 years now, and I just even tried giving it a pull and it still holds solid. Maybe there was a bad manufacturing batch after I bought mine, who knows. Either way, mine has performed flawlessly and is still in top working condition.
Well, after doing some research I decided on this as my choice of slow cooker. It arrived promptly and I set about giving it a good going o'er. Physically it is a very handsome contraption, with a classy black finish, and modern, even elegant, design. However, the proof is always in the pudding so to speak, so the next day I set about cooking my first meal, which happened to be pork in white wine sauce, the recipe for which is delicious and easy:
500g chunkily diced pork or chicken
400ml Bechamel sauce
100ml white wine (I prefer French)
1 packet of muschroom soup
2x coarsely chopped onions
4 coarsely chopped mushrooms
2 carrots cut lenghtwise into chunky rings, then each ring was quartered
2-4 cloves of raw chopped garlic according to taste
Take a large saucepan, put some oil in, and give the meat and all the vegetables a 3 or 4 minute fry to seal the meat and give the vegetables some texture. Now add all of the liquid and soup ingredients to the saucepan EXCEPT THE CREAM, as it then simply makes everything easier to transfer to the slow cooker. Now put it all in the slow cooker, and cook on low for 5-8 hours hours depending how tender you want your meat.Read more ›
Once I opened the box I was fairly happy though not overwhelmed, but given I'd only spent £25 I couldn't complain. Everything was solid (sturdy, good build etc) but I thought the lid was rather loose. I needn't have worried. I've had the cooker on the go since 10.00 this morning with a 3 day cured piece of shoulder pork for a Southern US style pulled pork and it's working a treat. No over heating, no rank cooking smells infiltrating the house and a damn good tasting meat so far.
It may lack the timer option, and the auto setting only works properly once you've used both low and full on the dish, but I digress. This this is a good piece of kit for the £££ you pay.
