I bought this mainly to get a version of Tannhauser. Its a great CD with all the Wagner overtures. I knew Rienzi, Walkyries and Lohengrin. I didn't know the Flying Dutchman and was pleasantly surprised to discover it. All in all a good set of overtures well played and recorded.

The Chicago SO and Vienna PO pull out all stops in these fine recordings under Solti.

A plus point is the rich DDD sound of Die Walkure and Lohengrin but a minus point for Die Walkure is that is not the complete overture; it is faded out around a minute before it should finish.

T he music on this disc is that which introduced me to Wagner in my teens but now so much better recorded at tat time.Solti is a good interpreter of the music of Wagner, Mozart and Richard Strauss.
