Bobby Roode and Chad Gable vs. Scott Dawson and Rezar - This is the first of three bonus matches. If Dawson and Rezar won then their respective teams would gain future shots at the RAW Tag Team Championships. It was a good, fun match. It was nothing special so I'm glad it wasn't on the main show but it was an entertaining bonus match. The action was good, with a fast pace and a strong, decisive finish. I would have preferred the titles to have been on the line on the main show instead but this was enjoyable.
Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Rusev - This was for Rusev's United States Championship. It was a very good, back and forth match. The action was entertaining with some good reversals and close near-falls. The finish wasn't 100% clean but I didn't mind it and I liked the way it played into something big that happened on the main card. These two have very good matches when put together and that showed here.
Buddy Murphy vs. Akira Tozawa vs. Hideo Itami vs. Kalisto - This Fatal Four-way was the final match of the Kickoff show and it was for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. It was a really good match. It has a fast pace with non-stop action coming from all sides. There were so many innovative manoeuvres, near-falls, quick reversals and last minute break ups. The action was really strong from start to finish and the finish was satisfying. Some really enjoyable action here.
Becky Lynch vs. Asuka - This was the opening match of the main card and it was for the Smackdown Women's Championship. It was an amazing way to start the show. The action was great from start to finish. It was full of reversals, near falls and drama around all the submission attempts. The finish to the Championship match at T.L.C. unfortunately made Asuka look a bit weak as she wasn't really involved in the finishing spot; Thankfully her performance in this match completely made up for that as both women left this fight looking strong. A fantastic start to the show.
The Bar vs. Shane McMahon and The Miz - This was for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships. The fact that Shane McMahon believes he's on the same level as the rest of these men is ridiculous and made me really not want to see this match. It was actually a pretty fun match though. Shane didn't bring the match down too much and there were actually some entertaining moments. There were some good near-falls and last second break-ups and they lead to a strong and decisive finish.
Ronda Rousey vs. Sasha Banks - This was for Ronda's RAW Women's Championship. It was another great, back and forth match. The action was so good. They both targeted their opponent's arms throughout the match. This affected the match which I liked and it lead to some exciting submission attempts. The only problem I had with this one is that I'd have liked it to have lasted a few more minutes. Other than that, great match.
30-Woman Royal Rumble Match - This was the first of two Rumbles that would take place at this event. Just like the year before the women put on an exciting match. While the year before they made up the numbers with a load of stars from the past, this year they used up and coming stars from NXT, NXT UK and the Mae Young Classic. That maybe made the match feel slightly less exciting without all the nostalgia but it was still a fun match. It had all the things that make up a great rumble; It had surprise entrants, memorable moments and a load of false finishes. There was a spot involving Hornswoggle which sucked and a weird thing with Alicia Fox's hat but other than that it was all good. The finish was great and there was so much excitement and drama as soon as the final entrant came out and it was one of the best 'final two's in Royal Rumble history.
AJ Styles vs. Daniel Bryan - Daniel Bryan was defending his WWE Championship here. It was a really good, competitive, technical match. It was probably the weakest of their fights together but that isn't saying it's bad, they've just had some fantastic matches. Some people would say it was a bit slow but I enjoyed the way the match built. Bryan went after AJ's arm while AJ tried to attack Bryan's Leg. I wasn't a fan of the finish though as I felt this one deserved a more clean and decisive result. It didn't hurt the match but it could have been even better with a more satisfying finish.
Brock Lesnar vs. Finn Balor - This was for Lesnar's Universal Championship. It was another great match. It was fairly short but the action was amazing while it lasted. Brock was dominant as ever but Finn found a way to make the match competitive. He went after the mid-section of Lesnar, playing off his past issues with diverticulitis. This made the match more interesting because it stopped Brock from being able to rely on just throwing Finn around the way he usually would. I loved the psychology of this fight and the finish was strong too. This was so good.
30-Man Royal Rumble Match - This was the main event of the show. It was another fun and exciting rumble. Just like the women's match it had all the things you need to make an entertaining Royal Rumble. It started off with a fun moment between Elias and a surprise entrant. There were plenty more memorable moments to come too as we got more surprise entrants, some memorable eliminations, entertaining moments and a strong, crowd-pleasing finish. The final entrant also added something really interesting and different to the match which added a load of intrigue while leading to the final few. It was another strong rumble on par with the women's match earlier in the night.
I would definitely recommend this DVD. I thought it was one of the best WWE events in some time. There wasn't a bad match on the show. The main show was filled with great fights. Both Rumble matches delivered fun and entertaining matches. The singles Championship matches on the card were all great and the Tag Championship match over-delivered and gave us a fun and enjoyable match. It was an incredible event and one well worth owning.
