The show starts with a rock song performed well, some thought this was daft,i loved it.
So we have a great team of LITA and TRISH STRATUS facing ALICIA FOX (yeah i know, but it's really not that bad) and MICKIE JAMES. Great action here, both LITA and TRISH looked great and even though Alicia messes up a few spots it is still a cool opener.
THE WOMEN'S BATTLE ROYAL featuring old and new stars is for me one of the best battle royals they have had in years, nice to see some old faces and with the likes of ASUKA,NIA JAX and TAMINA as just 3 of those likely to win. I really appreciated it and though not a big fan of the winner i thought it was done well.
A tournament final now for the May Young classic and what a good one it is. TONI STORM faces IO SHIRAI in a bout with many great spots and great wrestling, pity this was so short as i would have loved to have seen several more minutes of this kind of action.
BAYLEY and SASHA BANKS join forces with NATALYA to take on THE RIOTT SQUAD and though it is not a top quality match it was a fair bit better than expected. Some nice spots,BAYLEY looked better than she has for a while and the end was satisfactory. Some may have seen it as a filler but it captured my interest.
The pirate woman KAIRI SANE dedfends her newly won NXT title against rival SHAYNA BASZLER in a craacking encounter. Again should've and could've been longer but it was a very impressive match, thumbs up from me.
The best match on the card it has to be said is here in the from of BECKY LYNCH dending her title against smug smug very smug CHARLOTTE. So ok the wwe have messed up the heel and the face roles, but this is one heck of a match with both women deserving praise. A last woman standing match that lasts a nice time and has plenty of spots to cheer at. I did find it a bit silly when a usually tough Becky backed off from a raging Charlotte after failing to put her down for the ten count but that is my only gripe.
The end was really nicely done and this was a match of the year contender.
THE MAIN EVENT sees the other women's title defended as champion RONDA ROUSEY takes on NIKI BELLA who recently turned on her. Ok,this match is not a great one on paper and NIKKI has not done enough latley to have this spot but that said this was still pretty good. We had sister BRIE BELLA doing her best to help NIKKI capture the title by any means and RONDA keeps looking very impressive. Some really nice moments in here and better than it was expected to be. It clearly should not have been main event but that is the wwe for you and it was still a very good match.
All in all,not at all disappointing,i loved this event. Yes,some things could have been improved but for the first wwe all women's event, they kicked ass!
Trish Stratus and Lita vs. Alicia Fox and Mickie James - Alexa Bliss was meant to part of this opening match but was unfortunately replaced due to injury by Alicia. It was a good match to kick off the show with. It was an enjoyable back and forth match with decent action and a clean and satisfying finish. It wasn't anything ground breaking in the ring but it was entertaining and good to see Lita and Trish back in the ring. It would have been a better match with Alexa able to compete but it was a good start to the show.
Battle Royal - This was made up of the women who didn't get a proper match on the show along with some nostalgia acts from the past. The winner would get a future Women's Championship match. The participants were: Naomi, Michelle McCool, Sonya Deville, Alundra Blaze, Carmella, Zelina Vega, Kelly Kelly, Tamina, Ember Moon, Lana, Maria Kanellis, Mandy Rose, Molly Holly, Dana Brooke, Nia Jax, Ivory, Asuka, Torrie Wilson, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay. Asuka and Ember Moon should really have been doing something else as they're wasted in a match like this. The match itself was pretty good for a Battle Royal. They had a decent amount of time and had some good character interactions going on. They didn't push the nostalgia acts too hard and had some entertaining moments.
Toni Storm vs. Io Shirai - This was the finals of the 2018 Mae Young Classic tournament. I didn't really know either woman and hadn't seen the rest of the tournament so wasn't that invested in this match going in. They did a good job of changing that though with a fast paced and exciting back and forth match. They had some impressive manoeuvres and convincing near falls. The action was exciting and they had a great finish.
The Riott Squad vs. Sasha Banks, Bayley and Natalya - This was good, competitive Six-Woman tag match. Both teams worked together well including Bayley taking a bullet for Sasha Banks and the frequent tags and strategy of the Riott Squad. It wasn't anything amazing but the action was entertaining and the finish was satisfying. I have no complaints.
Kairi Sane vs. Shayna Baszler - This was for the NXT Women's Championship and Kairi was going in as champion. It was a fantastic match with a fast pace and great action. Baszler's brutal offence was great, especially with her aggressive assault on Sane's arm. It was a very even match with Kairi's unique offence keeping her in the fight. There was some involvement by Shayna's friends towards the end but I didn't mind that, it didn't hurt the match and just added to the excitement by stacking the odds even more against Sane. There was some great drama around the final submission attempts and a good finish. This was such an amazing match.
Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte - This was a Last Woman Standing match for the Smackdown Women's Championship. Just like the last match this one was an amazing back and forth contest. You could feel the hatred and the intensity all throughout their fight. They brought in a load of weapons to add to their offence such as chairs, tables, kendo sticks and a ladder. They both took a load of punishment and there were plenty of times when the match could have been over but they just kept going. It was full of great action and had a decisive finish that made sure both women looked strong.
Ronda Rousey vs. Nikki Bella - This was the main event of the night and was for Rousey's RAW Women's Championship. I was worried about the quality of this match going in but I actually really enjoyed it. Nikki was clearly outmatched by Rousey's fighting ability but she managed to make it a competitive match by using crafty tactics including interference by her twin sister. It lasted a good amount of time, stayed entertaining and had a very good, satisfying finish to end the night with.
This was a very enjoyable event. In my opinion it was one of the better shows of the year. There wasn't a bad match on the card and there were some very good matches that are worth watching more than once. Also I was worried going in to this event that it would be full of Stephanie McMahon since she seems to be under the impression that she invented women. Luckily that wasn't the case and she was kept very minimal, only appearing briefly in a video package and to congratulate the winner of the Mae Young Classic. There was so much to like about this event and so I'd definitely recommend this DVD.
