When the World Wrestling Federation became World Wrestling Entertainment, the Attitude Era was laid to rest. A new era had begun and a new generation had arrived in 2002, one that needed a leader.

In 2002 and 2003, wrestling belonged to one man, and that was (without question) Brock Lesnar. Don't believe me? Look back at his career on his DVD. You'll be reminded very quickly that Lesnar was much more than a flash in the pan. He was a monstrous phenomenon with the amateur background, and the technical wrestling ability to go with anyone he faced.

Because Here Comes The Pain was released in 2003, the documentary only explores the start of his time with WWE up until May 2003, so sadly what's covered here is before the later stages of his rivalry with Kurt Angle, his short feud with Chris Benoit, and his No Way Out title bout with the late, great Eddie Guerrero. But there're still a lot of classic moments here that are worth your time.

Unlike the WWE's latest superstar releases, Here Comes The Pain doesn't have the main star of the show being interviewed throughout the whole thing. We only see Brock and get comments from him when his childhood is being discussed. From then on, it's just a handful of WWE agents, his opponents, greatest rivals and Paul Heyman giving their views on what he accomplished and how he performed in the ring. Although it's still great viewing, it's disappointing that we only hear from Lesnar himself for about five minutes and that's it.

Despite this criticism, the career highlights are genuinely impressive. Starting off with his assaulting of fellow wrestlers, you quickly become reminded how Brock was immediately established as a monstrous heel and an absolute killer.

Released to cash in on Brock Lesnar's stunning WWE return in 2012, the main feature of this set is the near decade old documentary that was released back when Lesnar really was looking like the man who would lead the WWE for the next ten years. Of course, an NFL "dream" and a UFC career later Lesnar could return to a WWE desperately short of headline talent and put his name to one of the most lucrative contracts the WWE have even given out.

The documentary is in the "old style" WWE mode, meaning that past a quick look at his childhood and amateur wrestling days we're treated to a feud by feud look at his in-ring career (albeit one that cuts well short of his WWE send-off against Goldberg at WrestleMania XX). It perhaps wouldn't cut the mustard these days, but I got a kick out of it in a "retro" style. It's also amusing in one respect to hear a number of people push Lesnar as the future of the WWE knowing that within a year or so of this he was gone.

The main selling point of this 2-disc Blu-Ray set (also available on a 3 disc DVD set) would be the matches...and there are some absolute corkers in there. His destruction of Hulk Hogan (from an August 2002 Smackdown) still shocks today and I doubt we've ever seen Hogan put some-one over quite like this. His inaugural title victory over The Rock from Summerslam 2002 is an athletic stormer, whilst his Hell In A Cell battle with The Undertaker is a compelling and brutal masterpiece. He also takes on Kurt Angle in two very good matches (WrestleMania XIX's main event and an epic 60 Minute Iron Man match from Smackdown) and whilst artistically his match with Goldberg from WrestleMania XX is a bust, it's an interesting watch.
