- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 June 2017Plugged into my Windows 10 machine and was recognised straight away. Ran Putty with tx/rx loopback - echo worked straight away. Far better than the cheaper FTDI232 I got from another supplier where the header pins didn't want to work - probably why it was cheaper - but then this isn't expensive (wish I'd bought it first)
It has 5v and 3.3v pins - I use it for programming some STM32 devices - they happen to be 5v tolerant on the RX/TX pins but some devices need only 3.3v so this will work with either. It was delivered with a cable as per picture.
However, if, like me, you spread your electronics about on your desk then you need to get a USB A male to female extender OR a longer 6 way extension (harder to find). I did find some 50cm jumper wires from sourcingmap on Amazon - they would help.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 October 2017I bought this for project work with Arduinos, and others, where I only had a TTL Uart signals which I wanted to connect to my laptop and access the projects with applications written in Delphi. As I and using a Windows 7 64 laptop I had to download and install the driver, (google CP2104 to Uart bridge controller download, and get to the Silicon laboratories website) I installed it as per instructions, plugged the device in and it worked.
I used TeraTerm as the port driver on COM10, and I looped TXD back to RXD, and Viola! it worked! Even the serial port configuration options in TeraTerm controlled the device.
For the price, a brilliant piece of useful kit is you are involved with Uart connections to electronic projects

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 March 2024I recently got my hands on the WINGONEER CP2104 Serial Converter USB 2.0 To TTL UART 6PIN Module, and I must say, I'm pretty impressed. If you're in need of a reliable serial interface, this little guy is definitely worth checking out.
First off, let me tell you that this module does exactly what it promises. I had no issues whatsoever using it as a serial interface. The inclusion of jumper leads is a nice touch, saving you the hassle and extra expense of buying them separately.
Now, if I had to nitpick, I'd say that a protective case would have been a nice addition. You know, just to give the module a bit more durability. But honestly, considering the affordable price point, I can't really complain. It's a small trade-off for a product that performs so well.
Overall, if you're looking for a cost-effective and efficient solution for your serial communication needs, the WINGONEER CP2104 Serial Converter is a solid choice. It's straightforward, reliable, and comes with everything you need to get started. Whether you're working on a personal project or a professional one, this module is definitely worth adding to your toolkit.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 October 2021Worked exactly as described for the purpose for which it's intended.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 July 2020Used this to programme various devices with custom firmware including BTHH5, Openreach modems, Sonoff switches etc. Works well.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 April 2020The majority of USB to serial converters on Amazon fail to list their maximum speed. In fact, if they are based on the CP2102 or FT232RL chips, they are limited to a maximum of 1Mbit/s and so are unsuitable for use with, for example, a Pine ROCK64 single-board computer which requires 1.5Mbit/s. This converter uses a 2104 chip which goes up to 2Mbit/s and so is perfect for those higher data rates.
One star taken off only because this is a barebones board where other offerings are enclosed in a plastic case. But for only occasional use it's perfect.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 December 2016Excellent bit of kit and works fine on Windows 10. Used for loading an Arduino project. Good value for the money.

Dan Y.Reviewed in the United States on 23 October 20185.0 out of 5 stars Using a capacitor on the DTR line
I used the Wingoneeer CP2104 Serial Converter, USB 2.0 To TTL UART, 6 PIN Module, to communicate between a Jameco bare bones Arduino circuit kit and the Arduino IDE on the PC and it worked perfectly!
The Jameco kit included the ATMega328P-PU 32kB Flash microcontroller with pre-loaded Arduino UNO Optiboot bootloader. All I need was a way to get sketches downloaded from the PC to the bare bones kit IC. The Jameco kit documentation used FTDI's basic breakout board for USB to serial but I would recommend using the less expensive CP2104 Wingoneer. Jameco suggested using a 0.1uF ceramic capacitor (included in the bare bones kit) between the DTR line and the reset pin on the 328Amega chip. This "hack" was also mentioned in another review.
Link to Jameco kit:
JAMECO KITPRO Barebones Arduino Circuit Kit
On this kit it was necessary to disconnect the 3VDC & 5VDC power regulators from the voltage source while powering the Jameco kit from the USB and Wingoneer UART. The RXD & TXD are reversed when connecting them to the kit IC, pins 2 & 3. The Windows 10 drivers loaded automatically. Downloading sketches through the USB/CP2104 worked fine using the UNO board identification. The picture shows the CP2104 being powered by the USB and running the kit. The sketch program flashes the (3) red LED's and then the (3) green LED's. Note the 0.1uF capacitor between DTR (CP2104 brown wire) and chip pin #1 (reset).
