Searching the internet we find that may people have had the same issue with this product and it seems it no longer supports iPlayer, this being the case the product does not fulfil the specs when purchased and this product is less than a year old.
Also try going back or forward when watching a file and the thing either takes ages to catch up or locks up altogether.
To summarise: I think it is an excellent product and beats others I have tried (many, including Boxee box and AppleTV). It is far superior to the so-called smart TV functionality integrated by the likes of Samsung, LG, Sony, Philips etc.
Positive points in my experience:
> Small and compact.
> Does not get hot in normal operation. This is a modern device using a power-efficient chip dedicated for such products.
> Responsive user interface. It is also uncluttered and devoid of any adverts for sponsored content. It can also be tailored (in terms of displayed apps and background image).
> Control via iOS/other app is possible.
> Some useful apps available, e.g. iPlayer, Netflix, Spotify, TuneIn, Shoutcast, Slingplayer, AceTrax, YouTube, Flickr, FaceBook, Twitter.
> Set up is easy.
> uPnP works very well (in terms of content compatibility and trick modes).
> Output of digital audio over HDMI or SPDIF.
> Hasn't yet crashed!
> Is able to play uncompressed AIFF (inc. 24-bit/96KHz) audio files and Apple lossless audio files.
> Boot time from standby is very fast.
> There are two buttons on the RCU that can be configured to perform desired functions, e.g. go straight to BBC iPlayer.
> Like many other devices it doesn't let go of the HDMI connection when switching into standby, which means that it can fool HDMI switches that can autoswitch into thinking it is still on.Read more ›
The set up for internet connection wirelessly is simple also - it detects your router so just punch in your security password and you can get set immediately.
It has a number of pre-installed things like Youtube, BBC i-player, Netflix etc - all worked perfectly well. I had absolutely none of the problems any of the other reviewers have had with glitches with this. My TV is in the same room as my router so maybe this is the reason? I watched a number of programmes on i-player and a few videos on Youtube and there was no delay of the action or blockiness or anything untoward.
I then went onto my storage device which is a 1TB hard drive. I watched a few programmes on this - an mp4 file, a few mkv files and some avi files - viewed a few jpegs and listened to some mp3 tracks. No problem with any of these at all.
The only problem I did encounter was at first my device would not "pause" a film but this only happened on one particular film so it may be more to do with a slightly corrupt file than any problem with the device.
This is my third media player so I was interested to see how it rated in comparison. My last one did not have the wireless internet connection or the access to the apps (iPlayer etc) through the device so these are all bonuses to me (though I do have other ways to view all of these through my tv it's still a nice feature). I like the "front screen" - others I have used have just had a black background.
All in all a good device - it does what I want it to when I want it to. I've only been playing with it for a few days though and if I have any problems to report I will furnish you with an update.
It also takes the device a full 20 minutes to recognise a 1TB drive. It takes my 1GHz 512mb RAM Android tablet 20 seconds and it wasn't even designed to be used with external hard drives.
Save yourself the trouble and get a more powerful device, or a smart blu-ray player.
Having gone over it's awful problems, it does however play movies well. Via Netflix and storage when it finally loads up.Subtitles are customizable too which is a nice feature.
