By A Customer on 23 Jan. 1999
Format: Paperback
I picked up this book out of curiosity. I always heard Auden's name mentioned here and there and decided to enlighten myself. Little did I know that this book would turn me into an avid lover of Auden's poetry. One knows when reading it that the author knows his subject inside out. It is very readable and peppered with humourous anecdotes that prevent the book from being closed. The only criticism is that there are too few extracts of Auden's poetry but that only makes you want to read more. Auden's life is so well recounted that one feels, by the end, that he is almost an acquaintance. If the person reading this review is hesitating, don't! It would be a sin not to buy it.
