The Voynich Deception: 1 (The Architect) Paperback – 15 Jan. 2014
Purchase options and add-ons
When a book dealer comes to him with the key to the manuscript and a promise of untold riches, mob boss Gezim Petrela is hooked. Then the dealer disappears and Petrela tracks down the team he’d chosen to demand that they finish decoding it. And he uses his own brand of persuasion to make sure they comply.
Petrela gives Ben Jarvis, a linguistics reader at a small university, two weeks to do what the world’s top cryptologists have failed to do in a hundred years. Or his girlfriend will die…
Secret codes, a turf war between rival gangs, a theft from a government building and a shadowy, offstage figure known as the Architect all collide in this thriller that will keep you guessing to the end.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 February 2014Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseThoroughly enjoyed reading this book - in fact found it really hard to put down. The way it's written tempts you into reading the next section because you can't wait to see what happens next. It is full of action but very cleverly written, with technical and historical detail throughout. However, the writer has made it much more accessible to those without intricate subject knowledge by his subtle explanations which are included as part of the storyline. I found it easy to visualise each scene from the descriptions given - so much so, I wonder when the movie is coming out! Thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys fast-paced, intelligently written mystery, with a twist in the tale!

David E. BellReviewed in the United States on 25 January 20175.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyed this story
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseReally enjoyed this story, you don't want to put it down. The amount of research done by the author was amazing!
dedlundReviewed in the United States on 10 February 20184.0 out of 5 stars Good mystery, but not the plot I expected.
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseBased on the book blurb, I had expected a plot that was roughly based on outlandish theories about the Voynich Manuscript and alien lifeforms, or undiscovered ancient civilizations. That is not this book. Instead, Lancashire delivers a thoughtful—as in Hitchcockian—mystery. The ending is sure to surprise. However, I found the lengthy dialogue in Albanian along with the excessive use of parenthetical clauses, to be both unnecessary and distracting. If you love a good mystery, The Voynich Deception is worth reading. But don’t be misled by the title, the Voynich Manuscript is not the foundation of this story.

Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseI don't usually read books involving the "mob", hiwever it sounded interesting so I gave it a try. It was great, well written, engaging and thought provoking. Once I started had to read it straight through. Will be reading more by this author.

Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseAs I started reading, I wondered where this story was going..but the Author tied it all together very smoothly and with surprises by the end. He also kept it just interesting enough to keep you reading throughout the novel....Now I am intrigued about the Architect and wonder where the author will take him..
Kindle CustomerReviewed in the United States on 30 March 20184.0 out of 5 stars Clever boots
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseThis author is almost as clever as his main character who is very clever indeed. If you know about the Voynich manuscript this is great fun. If you are a newcomer it is a fine place to start. A great read.
