This is vintage Getz, along with Barron,Mraz,Lewis, four outstanding musicians sharing pure lyrical jazz soulfulness.Recorded in 1986 this studio acoustic set is of the highest order and includes "I wanted to say"(9.25)"I thought about you"(5.26)"Yesterdays"(9.18)Dreams(10.22) "Falling in love"(8.22)"Voyage"(7.04).Absolutely hypnotic and enchanting,Getz is in top form.Drift away on this "Voyage" to a better place, through many moods from tranquility to total inspiration.Very rare cd now-find it if you can!

This album by Stan Getz is not among his best-known but certainly deserves to be: it's an absolute cracker. It dates from 1986 when Stan was at last finding his way out of his many "personal problems" - drugs, marriage to Monica, etc. He was happier in his own body and he had found the perfect piano partner for his quartet. Kenny Barron had played in all manner of different settings - with his brother Bill while still in his teens, with Yusef Lateef, James Moody and Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard and the Monk tribute band, Sphere, and others. And then, in 1986, he joined Stan Getz and stayed until Stan's death. This album (Stan's first studio album for 4 years) followed shortly afterwards, with a wonderful rhythm team in George Mraz on bass and Victor Lewis on drums. It was recorded in a single day - the 6 tracks a mixture of choice standards and fine originals. The other 5 tracks are splendid but, for me, the absolute standout track is "I Thought About You" where Stan plays an excellent first solo and then leaves it to Kenny to play his own solo and close out the track. Equal partners. Sheer class. Sheer beauty.

Like this truly excellent album that features Stan Getz and Kenny Barron in beautifully languid "after hours" mode. Now re-released after many years of being consigned to "collectors only" status, grab it while it's still available... you may not have heard of it, but you won't be disappointed.

These pieces feel like reflections, musing on life and music. The Getz sound is as beautiful as can be, but it is backed up by an unshowy mastery of the music he loves to play, a depth of feeling and insight in which content is more important even than form.
