Finan was wounded in the last book and is still recovering from those wounds when there is another attack on Rafe’s life, sustaining even more wounds. He hates been fussed over, especially by a women and is horrified when Rafe’s sister Esme is the one assigned to take care of him. He was pretty rough with her throughout the book, she really had a lot thicker skin than I would have had. Or maybe, I am just way too stubborn and would have left him to his own devices until he treated me better. I was glad she stuck around though and help tear down his defenses. It was fun to watch their relationship develop.
The story is told from a few different POV, so we get to reunite with all our favorite characters and it helps the story progress. I think my favorites this time around were Leofrick (who is charming and adds a fun comedic element, but has more going on than what he lets people see) and Daegmund (who is a big jerk, but a confident one that I couldn’t help but like).
Overall, a fun read and a fun series. Can’t wait to read about more of these characters!
Now I am wanting more of this series
>I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock. This book is the second book in the Lady Quill Chronicles. This is a regency romance that ends in an HEA with more of the story to come.
>This story continues just after book one ends. Adele is brought to Valrek, the family castle and meets Rafe's 2 sisters and mother. I love how the reader was treated to the wedding between Adele and Rafe. Among the romance, there is a sinister air. Someone is trying to kill Rafe and his trusted man, Finan, is injured. As Rafe's sister, Esme, cares for Finan, a new romance begins to bloom. There is also a battle of wills between the other sister, Aisly, and Rafe's strange friend, Daegmund. The comic relief is in the verbal sparring between these two characters. I sense a budding romance, but nothing really happened.
>All of Rafe's friends were on the scene, as were some poignant scenes with Rafe's father. All the men respect Lord Brogan and the love he has for them all shows. The evil man is not really dealt with and a new unknown enters the mix. Who is the Brotherhood and what is their real purpose?
>This is a very clean romance. There was no descriptive wedding night scenes. I was wishing for a reminder that there had been a wedding night between Rafe and Adele. Maybe with shy blushing at breakfast or something. This was the only thing I felt was missing from the book. The story flowed well, had a lot of surprise and suspense and a bit of romance. I thought book 2 surpassed book 1 by far.
> This book is for a young adult (14+) and adult audience.
The Lady Quill Chronicles Book Two
Finan of Gournay is one of four foster sons to Lord Brogan of Valrek. Finan lives to protect this House and all within. After his blood brother Evoric was killed in the Calis battle, a part of Finan died as well and changed him forever.
Lady Esme is a Daughter of Valrek and she missed her childhood friend and was determined to find the person Finan once was, even if she has to put up with his brutal assault of words, as she cared for him after he was injured.
The reader will understand a lot more of all that is happening if they read the first book in this series, The Promise. There are many characters, but not so hard to follow once you learn them. Rafe and Adele begin the adventure in book one but the reader also meets many of the other characters. The same is true in this book. Leofric of Drogan, Daegmund of Gradock and Rand of Targhe along with Rafe’s other sister Aisly. The books finish without letting you hang, but keep you looking forward to the next love stories...andDD adventures to come.
