This story is part fact and part fiction. I found it interesting how liitle rights women had less than 100 years ago. I also had been unaware that there were suffragists as well as suffragettes. You know that women were not allowed to vote and that they were in essence the property of their husbands, but I hadn't really thought of the complete impact that would have on their lives.
Essentially, this is about the true story of the murder of James Cage, but it was so much more.
I would recommend this book.

This book is brilliant - a real page turner!
It was fascinating to see how women were treated in the different times. You can't believe how unfair some women's lives were through no fault of their own and you find yourself feeling sympathy for a really unsympathetic character which is an amazing achievement for the author.
I especially enjoyed the information at the end of the book and the story of how it came to be written - a twist I have never come across before.

This is a compelling read - a real page-turner that I have already read twice!

The characters are beautifully crafted and the subject is excellently researched. As far as the plot is concerned - it's an absolute winner.

It's almost hard to believe how much society changed between the two murders - and also how much it has changed since (especially for women). Fascinating stuff!

I didn't realize till the end that the parts of the book written about the 1800's were based on
a real murder trial. Mary Cage (a distant relative of the author) was hanged for the murder of her
abusive husband by poison.
In 1911 Louisa, a budding Suffragist, found a diary written about Mary, her troubled life and her trial.
When the father of her new friend, Sophia, dies, Louisa suspects poisoning and compares the case
to that of Mary Cage and her family. She, Sophia and Sophia's cousin try to discover the poisoner.
In between there was information about the struggle by women to gain the vote - by peaceful and violent
means.

I thought the plot was rather thin and the dialogue a bit stilted, even for the times the book was set in.
It was an o.k. read.

I found this book truly gripping, and I fast became unable to put it down. The amazing story-line almost bought me to tears on a number of occasions, with some truly inspiring characters. It becomes instantaneously apparent that Vote for Murder has been very well researched and takes you on a roller-coaster of emotions from start to finish. The way that the plots integrate effortlessly is a great attribute to the writer. I would strongly recommend this book, I often find it difficult to read a book that is set in the past as this is, I find it hard to relate to the characters in their surroundings, however the way that this book is written certainly made me overcome any preconceptions i had before starting. Great read

This book is gripping from the beginning to the end. Very cleverly written, the two stories blended so well. Mary's suffering at the hands of the abusive husband and her in turn turning into a lunatic who neglected her children and drugged and killed some of them. In the end Mary gets hanged for poisoning her husband which she vehemently denied to a friend but not to the authorities to protect whoever did, who can only be one of her children. Decades later someone stumbled upon Mary's diary, at the same time as man dies and it looks like he's been poisoned. The question is by who?
On the other hand the author shows the struggles women went through to be granted the right to vote

Very happy about this book
I'm starting to look to reading new genres so for me things are a bit of a gamble.
I was impressed very early on with the book. Well researched and thought out. I really enjoyed the style of writing within the historical context of the late nineteenth century.
Nice layering and interwoven plots and there was some wonderful character development.
Great imagery conjuring both the affluent and bottom of the barrel low income way of life around that time.

There's a lot going on in this book.

Loved it!

Was drawn into this book partly because of the compelling story which in parts mirrored the lives of the author's ancestors and partly due to the informative element as she provides extraordinary details of the suffragettes and their struggle to obtain their goals. A thoroughly good read which I would absolutely recommend.....very impressive for a new author.
