About the Author

H. P. Blavatsky (1831-1891) was a theosophist, mystic and co-founder of the Theosophical Society. She has been dubbed the "mother of the new age" for the profound effect her promulgation of eastern mysticism has had on the spiritual thought of the west. Format: Paperback
Whilst I have no wish to criticise the previous reviews of this remarkable little book, it may be helpful to point out that it has less to do with popular Buddhism as it is understood nowadays (both in the West and the East), and more to do with INITIATION. That is, the process by which the student of Mysticism develops their higher faculties, leading eventually to spiritual illumination and liberation from the bonds of matter.

As H.P. Blavatsky herself says in her introduction: "The following pages are derived from "The Book of the Golden Precepts," one of the works put into the hands of mystic students in the East".

She might have added that similar instruction was (and still is) given to mystic students in the WEST. But very little has ever been made public for the same reason that Blavatsky only translated less than half of the treatises which make up the 'Book of the Golden Precepts' from which this book is taken, namely: "They could not be given to a world too selfish and too much attached to objects of sense to be in any way prepared to receive such exalted ethics in the right spirit. For, unless a man perseveres seriously in the pursuit of self-knowledge, he will never lend a willing ear to advice of this nature."

How many DO 'persevere seriously'? If the sincere student is honest he will answer 'very few indeed.' For it is a fact verifiable by experience that MOST seekers after Truth prefer to have their own illusions and vain imaginings confirmed rather than learn the TRUTH from those who KNOW.

I foolishly had given my copy to a friend to borrow and it had not been returned. I cannot recommend this book enough. There is so much hidden wisdom in this book. Probably not for those new to esoteric books.

Even D.T. Suzuki, famous Zen master, after reading this book said, "This is the true mahayana buddhism!" Great book.

The size of this book makes it handy to take when going out. It passes time in waiting rooms etc. It contains much information to help those believers in reincarnation.
