Review

'Drawing on Vogue's peerless archive featuring top models, photographers and illustrators, and with commentary from the magazine's expert writers, each volume adds to a library that no fashion maven should be without - and all for the price of a snazzy pair of tights.' --Daily Mail, 13th September 2013

'The Vogue On series of short books has just had an additional four books added to its collection. Each one covers a different designer and draws on the Vogue archive to create a very special addition to any fashionista's library.' --Conde Nast Traveller, October 2013

From the Inside Flap

Vogue on Designers is a new series of fashion books from British Vogue which tell the fascinating stories of iconic designers accompanied by world-class photographs and illustrations from the Vogue archive.

Dame Vivienne Westwood is the undisputed queen of British fashion - 'the Coco Chanel of our day' according to Alexander McQueen - whose innovatory genius is acknowledged worldwide. Her revolutionary designs encompass the co-creation of punk, the reinvention of the crinoline, the restyling of Harris Tweed, the re-introduction of platforms and the re-drawing of the hourglass figure, as well as Sarah Jessica Parker's sumptuous Sex and the City wedding dress. Vogue on Vivienne Westwood provides a unique insight into the incredible career of this fearless non-conformist with a relentless passion for tradition.

British Vogue has charted the careers of designers through the decades. Its unique archive of photographs, taken by the leading photographers of the day from Cecil Beaton to Mario Testino, and original illustrations, together with its stable of highly respected fashion writers, make British Vogue the most authoritative and prestigious source of reference on fashion. With a circulation of over 160,000 and a readership of over 1,400,000, no brand is better positioned to present a library on the great fashion designers of the modern age.

Whilst I like this book and find Vivienne Westwood to be very interesting, I was disappointed that it was written by someone who seemed to like to list fact after fact after fact. This became more than a little repetitive and slightly boring. There is definitely something about Westwood that is intriguing and I think it was misrepresented in this book. Bit disappointing as I like the other Vogue books in this series. Hopefully this is just a one off considering each book is penned by a separate author.

The book is smaller than I thought it would be and the back cover page was creased so made a dodgy present!
