Product Description

Product Description

Easy to use, brush-on monitoring trap Prevents wingless female moths climbing trees to lay their eggs Apply in Autumn (September/October) and renew in February Winter Moths are the scourge of fruit trees. They lay their eggs in tree bark crevices and the resultant larvae and caterpillars - easily recognised by their green colour with pale lines on the side and a darker one along the top - will feed on virtually any tree or shrub and can be a serious pest in apple trees and orchards. Vitax Fruit Tree Grease is the answer. It's a traditional, brush-on monitoring trap for winter moths and prevents damage to fruit trees.

Box Contains

I have a small orchard that I try to treat as organically as possible - so I don't spray the trees. I use this grease to keep the moths / insects at bay. One tub does 10 to 12 medium sized (8 year old) trees. I apply it on a different section of the tree each year to avoid the same bit of tree repeatedly being greased as it can make the bark seem a bit soft. In this respect the grease seems more suitable to the trees than the strips that I have used in the past as they can hold water / moisture against the trunk of the tree.

Smeared around the trunk of my cherry tree to stop the ants and it worked a treat. Moreover, I smeared some along the top of the fence and it has stopped cats from trying to get into the nest of a family of blackbirds, so it's a multifunctional product!!

. . .eventually. It is not suitable for young trees but this is not made clear in the product description. So I had to buy some greasebands as well and will keep this product until my trees are older.

I've used this grease for several years on my fruit tree with no problems at all.

My usual supplier ceased trading last year & I was unable to find any more so I used a ready made sticky band instead. Very difficult to apply neatly & accurately, stuck to everything except the tree - a horrible job to apply.

With the Vitax gease the job is a doddle - fix a dry band around the tree in comfort & accuracy and then slurp the grease on with a spatula or old paint brush.

I'd never considered Amazon as a supplier - a wonderful surprise!

I might have reviewed this before - unsure, but this is my second tub

treats loads of trees, and you will see all the insects stuck in it that would otherwise climb up the tree and infest your fruit

first year in house all fruit was infested. used this and a couple of other products, and had no infestation in plums at all following year

not sure if the plums all ripening at once was due to this or an odd summer, but I had a huge amount of extra fruit from about 10 minutes work with this stuff. get ready to bin whatever you apply it with

The product works well. It is easy to apply; using an old paintbrush you can get it into the crevices in the bark. (Best to remove loose bark beforehand, otherwise it comes off and sticks on the brush.)
BUT, when the seal on the new pot was removed and the pot opened it was less than half full of grease! I weighed it "full" and empty (with as much of the grease scraped out as possible), and I don't believe there was 200g in there. Contacted Vitax about this several weeks ago but have had no reply.

Easier to use than the sticky tape and easy to apply with a paint brush - would recommend this product.

This is a great product and will prevent insects and aphids crawling up the trunk of the tree and getting into the fruit.I will certainly be looking forward to using it again and again.
