Jason Halstead is prolific, and as usual he serves up a fun, exotic and stirring tale.

Vitalis has claimed many victims. Not only are its flora and fauna weird and vicious, but it is inhabited by a hostile, superintelligent spirit. It's no place for old men, or innocents. However, its terrors are usually confined to the planetary surface. Not this time; the crew of Independence, a transport ship carrying samples from Vitalis, discovers that the samples contain live aliens. These are not friendly aliens. Worse, the entire crew has been infected by invisible Vitalian bacteria, which threaten to transform them into mutants.

Can Kira and the embattled heroes of Vitalis help--will Earth, too, be dragged into this nightmare? Guess you'll have to pick up the book.

Vitalis is a dangerous planet. It is also a great setting for space opera.

Mother Vitalis, the planet's Gaia-like global intelligence, is murderous and malign. She is becoming increasingly draconian in Her evil as time goes by. However, She allows a handful of bedraggled pioneers to survive on Vitalis, including our heroine Kira.

In "Vitalis: Provenance", a vile infestation finds it way onto the spaceship Independence, and breaches containment--think Alien, but scarier and even more fraught. This story is intertwined with Kira's adventures on Vitalis. Actually, Kira seems accidentally to have caused the problems on board the Independence, a few sample-shards of Vitalian corruption being enough to cause mayhem amongst naive spacefarers. Oops. Will anyone survive the tragedy?

In this novella of Vitalis Jason Halstead proves the increasing depth and width of his imagination.
Here we have a Galaxy spanning adventure of human endeavour, daring do, love, duty, monstrous monsters, and even more monstrous humans.
Most enthralling we have Vitalis the sentiment planet, she sits in the centre of the plot and keeps us guessing.
I hope that this isn't the end of the saga.
