A very useful largish format book for anyone looking to improve their fluency in architectural terminology. The book is built around clearly drawn illustrations, which account for about two thirds of the space, related to subjects that range from arches to beams, bricks, roofs, trusses, foundations, etc. Explanations are precise and there is an index of all the terms used.

Having flicked through Francis Ching's other books on Architectural Graphics, Design Drawing, Building Construction Illustrated and Architecture: Space, Form and Order - the Visual Dictionary is Ching's best. It is illuminated with vivid drawings covering a range of topics such as historic building features, sustainability, energy, structure, wall, roofs etc. - simply put a delightfully illustrated book that ought to be in any architect's book collection.

This book is a great help, for people who works or studies architecture, or building structure and needs pictures to remember different parts of a building.
It is easy to use, and a great help to people whose native language isn't English.
