Product Description

THEY KNOW WE ARE HERE.

You may think you ve seen it all, but NOTHING can prepare you for The Visitor! The ultimate excursion into B-movie madness, this 1979 cinematic oddity from schlock producer extraordinaire Ovidio G. Assonitis, director of such deliciously guilty pleasures as Beyond the Door and Tentacles, brings together an extraordinary ensemble cast in a mind-bending tale of a girl and her pet hawk.

At first glance, Katy Collins is just like any other normal 8-year-old girl but appearances can dangerously deceptive. As it turns out, Katy is the Earthly incarnation of an ancient evil by the name of Sateen an intergalactic supernatural entity who was vanquished many light years ago. Katy possesses tremendous powers making her capable of great destruction powers which some are keen to eradicate, and some to harness...

A veritable cult phenomenon thanks to its recent re-discovery, The Visitor combines stunning imagery, incredible set-pieces alongside a truly jaw-dropping cast list which includes John Huston, Mel Ferrer, Shelley Winters and Franco Nero appearing as Jesus!

This film is a mix between the Omen and Close Encounters, it is just weird but at the same time completely engrossing.

I could go on about the screenplay but there is no point, you have to watch it for yourself and make your own mind up, but what I loved about this film was the soundtrack it was weird and so original but then again the word weird is very fitting for this film and I would love to know what the director was smoking when he made this film, but I must say the ending was just brilliant.

If you have never seen this film then please go into this film with a open mind, you will ether love it or hate it.
The only negative thing I can say, the Blu-ray picture quality wasn't the best, so it gets a 2.5/5 from me.

But this is a great release from Arrow, you get a nice booklet, plus two discs, and a nice revisable cover.

There is almost no way to coherently explain what this film is about but I will try to give it a go.

Many hundreds of years ago an evil alien fugitive called "Sateen" (clever, huh?) came to Earth and had children. The evil lay dormant down through the generations until it manifested itself once more in a young girl called Katy Collins who can control birds, or something, and has telekinetic abilities, who urges her mother to have another child to her basketball team manager boyfriend so she can have an evil baby brother, a plan also encouraged by an evil board of unidentified men. An ex-tailor turned exorcist (played by John Huston!) comes to the US to stop her and switches a birthday present of a glass peacock for a loaded gun. Upon opening this present Katy chucks it onto a table where it goes off and shoots her mother right through the spine, crippling her. Bearing apparently no grudge against her the pressure to have another baby is still on, meanwhile the exorcist (working for Jesus himself) builds a runway on the roof of a skyscraper, with a bunch of other bald-headed exorcists who stay inside tarpaulin cubicles on said roof. He also acts as a babysitter to Katy while an astrologist housekeeper vows to protect mommy by killing an evil bird before she is thrown through a glass aquarium by Katy. An utterly superfluous scene inside in random hall of mirrors (located in a slum building that Katy flees to for no given reason) precedes a climax involving birds and...look I have NO idea what this film was about. It's enough to make your head explode.

It desperately wants to be Damien: Omen II but fails to match that movie's low-brow chills.

This is for the Arrow version. The picture and sound are great, which is what to normally expect from Arrow and the movie itself is good as I was expecting it to be strange and confusing which some reviews have stated but I found it easy to follow. The only downside was that the music sometimes was not in context with what was happening as it came across as something from an action movie instead of horror. But, apart from that it is a great movie.

i don't like writing negative reviews but arrow why did you release this? The movie could have been so much more but almost nothing happens and there is so many plot holes if it was cut down to an hour runtime it might not have been so bad but what really got me was piercing repetitive bird sound effect which seems 10 times louder than all the other sounds in the movie i swear my ears are bleeding

This is certainly a very confusing movie to follow at times with its twisted and surreal story and strange imagery, then again if you dig a bit deeper into your imagination and get every different angle to the story together from different sources then it starts to get a little clearer, by sources I mean the interviews on the disc from the stars and writers who all have different opinions, in a nut shell the story is about a demon or the devil as such who has found his way on earth and has taken over the body of an 8 year old girl whom likes to play messed up games and murder people etc a strange group of exorcists are in charge of finding her so they can take the evil part away, it all plays out a little sci-fi with a horror exorcist like theme mixed in as this was the film they originally wanted to rip off indirectly, the cast is great especially the young girl Katy Collins played by Paige Conner, the movie has some great effects too and a crazy soundtrack, if you love these old classic movies from the 70's and 80's it well worth checking out especially now its got such a great Arrow release.

Arrow Blu-ray has great picture quality. plus you get the DVD version.
Booklet and reversible cover.
A couple of interesting interviews with the writer and star Lance Henriksen. Trailer
90mins, Region B, 1978.
