The Broken Bonds series is a tense, edge-of-your-seat thriller with a side of kink. Trish always amazes me with how she weaves the title of the books she writes so poignantly into the narrative while being able to give it multiple meanings. It took all of my strength not to flick to the back of book 3 to uncover the UNSUB and confirm the multiple theories I had.
Told in first person narrative from Sadie, Colton and the UNSUB’s perspectives gave the plot an unsuspecting edge. While making a deep connection to the characters, it was also slightly disturbing to enter the mind of a psychopath. Trish delves into the traits that make a psychopath providing clear understanding to the workings of what can only be described as a disturbed mind. I found myself continually guessing who could be the UNSUB and more than that willing it not to be specific characters.
Past events within the main characters lives are revealed within the plot of the three books piece by piece adding to the tension. Not only aiding character development and the progression of the relationships within the story, the revelations provided food for thought covering the oft debated issue of nature versus nurture. How much is the human condition made up of traits they are born with and how much is shaped by our life experiences. Trish has crafted this story so ingeniously you can’t help but be blown away with specific revelations making you re-evaluate your stance on certain issues 😉
It was absolute torture waiting for each book to uncover more of the story and step closer to uncovering the identity of the UNSUB. You lucky people no longer have to wait – all three books are now available – get them NOW – you won’t be sorry.
The concluding part of With Visions of Red was an eventful ride. It had been a while since I read part two so it took me some time to find my bearings with the story and piece together the past events. The first half started off a little slow and I was no closer to guessing who the UNSUB was but that is the beauty about this story, it had so many facets and nothing was as it seemed.
The second half of the story went off like a rocket and my excitement increased. Trisha Wolfe has done an outstanding job with this series. WVoR took me back to my reading roots. Before finding contemporary romance, crime was my haunting ground. I devoured Karin Slaughter, James Patterson and Patricia Cornwell and now Trisha Wolfe can rest among them, her story read as flawlessly as anyone of theirs but the added bonus was the consuming romance between Colton and Sadie and it is now one of my favourite mystery, erotic thrillers of all time.
The writing was outstanding and I must say the ending was great. Sadie was laid bare and I was rooting for someone I knew I should have been questioning but Sadie was a woman at the end of the day and on some level I got her story. She is such a strong character and one that will stay with me.
I loved this series and highly recommend everyone reads it!
Despite the gore, brutality, and sometimes disturbing scenes depicted, there is a sophistication about these books. I can only put it down to the skill of the author. Think Dexter/Hannibal. With varied points of view, the reader gets to explore the world of police investigation from different angles. The killer's POV was particularly chilling with almost poetic prose I found genuinely scary.
Contrasting that is the developing romance between Sadie and Colton. The sex scenes are sensual and detailed rather than graphic and each scene serves a purpose in propelling the story forward. And these books do zoom along with fast paced action that will keep any reader completely engrossed.
One for those who enjoy an excellent crime read with a dark hit of romance and erotica.
