Product Description

Product Description

If you don't have eclectic taste in music, soundtracks can present a problem. Sometimes a soundtrack will focus on one style of music exclusively, but most of the time, a director will use any types of music he/she finds useful -- regardless of genre. The director's job isn't catering to those who limit themselves to one genre of music -- it's selecting any music that enables him/her to tell the story well. So if a director finds that everything from heavy metal to R&B to adult contemporary helps him/her tell a story, you could end up with a very diverse soundtrack. To fully appreciate the soundtrack for the 1985 film Vision Quest, you need to appreciate a variety of music. Fans of arena rock and pop/rock will appreciate Foreigner's "Hot Blooded" (which goes back to 1978, and is the LP's oldest offering), Sammy Hagar's "I'll Fall in Love Again," and Red Rider's "Lunatic Fringe," while heavy metal lovers will get into Dio's "Hungry for Heaven." But listeners will need an appreciation of dance-pop and R&B if they're going to get into the Style Council's '70s-minded "Shout to the Top" and Madonna's "Gambler" (an ultra-infectious gem that, unfortunately, isn't on any of the Material Girl's CDs). "Gambler" is one of those songs that should have been a major hit but wasn't, whereas "Crazy for You" (the soundtrack's other Madonna recording) soared to the top of the pop charts. This LP isn't recommended to either pop/rock or R&B/dance snobs, but it's worth picking up if you have eclectic tastes.

This is a good CD, really. But the main point of buying it is to get the highly overlooked but great Madonna song "Gambler". It simply isn't available in any other CD, it hasn't been released as a single and it isn't in any CD Single, not even in the "Crazy For You" CD Single. Therefore it's a must for any Madonna fan. Now if you're not a Madonna fan you may also enjoy this if the movie is one of your favourites or if you're really into 80's music - but then you're probabily would be a Madonna fan! This CD has a great selection of now non-existing 80's bands. Good music, so you're not gonna be buying it for just one song!!!

Songs are o.k., people are saying that Gambler by Madonna is not featured on any cd other that this, this is not true as it was featured on the cd single of La Isla Bonita as I own a copy of the said cd single featuring both Gambler and Crazy For You.

The film Vision Quest was a fairly forgettable 80's flick, but the soundtrack is quite a collectable item as it's about the only way to get hold of the Madonna track Gambler, or the original version of Crazy For You (the version on The Immaculate Collection has been disastrously remixed). The rest of this album is largely forgettable like the movie, but if you like those two Madonna songs then this is worth having.

The excellent song "Gambler" was released as a single in the UK back in 1985 (#4) and it is availlable also on the video "The Virgin Tour-Live" and as a b-side on one of the versions of "La Isla Bonita" single.5/5 for the "Gambler" and 0/5 for "Crazy For You"

Madonna was in the film for all of 5 minutes, but while in it she crafted 2 monster hits Crazy for you and GAMBLER. The track gambler features on no other record so to get it madonna fans have to get it here. The rest of the record is ok and has established acts.... but madonna steals the show
