I wish this book had been around when I was a student and having to fend for myself for the first time. The recipes are all extremely simple but interesting and varied, and the symbols are particularly useful, especially if youre a vegetarian or vegan, or if you just want something thats going to alleviate your hangover. I love the section called Come to Dinner, which has loads of ideas for when youre trying to impress your mates, and the cocktails in the final chapter have to be sampled though possibly not all in the same evening! This book is guaranteed to bring out the Delia or Jamie you.

Beverly LeBlanc is the food editor of the UK edition of the Reader's Digest and author of many cookery books including Spanish Food and Tapas for Marks and Spencer and The Cowboy's Cookbook for Running Press in the US. She is a regular contributor of recipes to a whole range of magazines and newspaper supplements including Bella and The Sunday Telegraph.
