I decided to run away for half an hour.. 3 kids a grumpy hubby 2 dogs and 4 two week old puppies.
I ran a bubble bath, poured a glass of wine (granted it holds a bottle of wine but I only half filled it), took my kindle and locked the noise behind the bathroom door. I don't know how to write reviews as I'm scared I give away too much so you are getting my experience.
I started on page 1 well, it's a good place to start.
Piper is brassy hard as nails and lush, everything I'm not, I like her.
Kade is sexy, hung like a horse and nerdy.. nowt like my hubby, I fancy him.
They are hot as hell.
I'm liking this story it's easy to keep track of there's no complicated jumping around so I'm not back tracking to see why or what. I'm in the tub an hour and the waters freezing, I didn't notice untill my kindle started to give up and request more energy, I thought yip, I need a bit of a recharge after the little wake up call piper had!! Phew! I got lost in this book, I loved this book and I can't wait to read the next book.. just not in the tub next time.

I loved Piper and it's no wonder that Kade did. She was sweet and sexy, she was lairy and gobby, she was sarcastically funny....and according to the description given in the book, she was one hot babe too!

I'm not going to retell the story in this review, but what I will say is that the author has told a very sweet tale of loving your best mate's sister extremely well. There was passion, there was comedy, there was serious guy talk lol. The story flowed effortless. The POV change was flawless.

The ending was sweet like the whole tone of the book. It's funny because I never expected this kind of story. I've said before, I very rarely read the blurb of a book and judging by the title, I was actually expecting a biker book! Nope, no bikers here thank goodness!!

One thing I will say is the book needs a damn good edit. There are spelling errors throughout. I'm not the greatest spellers but even I know the difference between your and you're.

I decided to let all the editing errors go over my head and award this the full 5* because I really really enjoyed this book and to what I have been reading lately, it was a breath of fresh air.

This is the first book in a series of novellas where the stories concentrate on a salon – Vipers Den. This is Piper (the owner) and Kade’s story.

Piper has hated Kade, her brother’s best friend for most of her life as she felt he took her brother away from her, who she also classed as her best friend and confidant. Little has changed over the years so when Kade asks her to help him with a situation he has found himself in she is shocked and surprised. He apparently has a stalkerish woman on his trail and he wants Piper to pretend to be his girlfriend to get this mad woman off his back. At first Piper is all for telling him to take a hike but then she finds by helping him he will also be helping her. Her mother is often trying to match make her with her friends weird sons, so if she also pretends Kade is her boyfriend that will solve her problem too. The only problem is as they hate each other how can they pull off a convincing display of being in love?

They say that hate is close to love and that certainly stands up in this sexy and quirky read. I love a romance that involves ‘friends’ becoming lovers and although loosely termed here it did follow that attractive formulae. What Piper doesn’t know is that Kade has always carried a torch for her and wants nothing more than for their fake relationship become real. Piper also finds herself becoming more accommodating to Kade, especially after that kiss. Then when they find themselves in the same bed the hatred quickly turns into mega lust and maybe something more?

I really enjoyed this book and was certainly not what I envisaged from the cover and blurb. It sounded like a real ‘out there’ type of read but it was a real romance storyline layered with a hint of crazy stalker. I loved that the characters, especially the workers at the salon who were a quirky and interesting bunch.

Can’t wait to read more of the series. Five stars!

Favorite Quotes:

“You wouldn’t think computer geek went with football captain, but that was Kade. He was a walking contradiction: sexy as hell, tall, broad, muscular, and able to hack any computer put in front of him. He would be easier to hate if he wasn’t so attractive.”

“Yes, baby. I’ve wanted to call you that for the longest time. Now that you’re mine, I’m going to be calling you all sorts of god awful pet names, and you’re going to like it.”

“Calling me his woman should have disgusted me, but it didn’t. What the hell was wrong with me! I actually liked it. Maybe I was running a low grade fever.”

My Review:

I adore Eliza Brown, her stories never fail to put a smile on my face. Her latest is solid gold from the first page, entertaining, well written, wicked funny, and deliciously steamy. She writes about misfits or “alternative” characters, but she has a knack of cleverly putting forth their humanity, and imbuing them with so much appeal, that they seem mainstream by the time I have settled into the tale. One of the main characters of this piece is the proprietress of Vipers’ Den, which is a “beauty salon that caters to the misfits of society.” Her looks are described as “intimidating.” She probably would appear unapproachable to me if I met her on the street, yet in her story, she is a typical gal and good person; she owns a business, works hard, and is falling in love. Daunting looks or not, I enjoyed spending my afternoon with her. There will be more their story with a continuation of the series, but thank goodness this was a stand-alone installment, no sucky cliffhanger – which is always a plus in my eyes.
