Jackie's follow up album to her self-titled debut features great performances by a host of wonderful friends and musicians from Devon and beyond, including the glamorous Jim Causley and Matt Norman, fellow Wistman's Woodfolk, Steve Turner and Andy Clarke, Nick Wyke and Becky Driscoll, Sean O'Shea, Phil Beer, James Dumbelton, Gris Saunderson, Nick Cooke, Jim Moray, Tim Van Eyken and Belinda O'Hooley from the far north. Once more, the album has been produced by Phil Beer and is released on his new label, Chudleigh Roots. Jackie was nominated for the Horizon 2008 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

lilting lightness to her voice and the slight Celtic overtones are just enough and just right. Also she pays attention to the lyrics, including the upbeat ones & fine timing & subtle mood changes in the vocals. Kudos to the production/arrangement ideas of Phil Beer of Show of Hands too (& the ideas here are not the folk rock of SOH either!). This album is also I think an improvement over her excellent first one. 'Young Donald' and "Billy Reilly' alone are devastating, deeply moving songs that almost alone make the album worth getting. But all the rest are wonderful too. I think if she keeps up like this, Oates can be mentioned in the same breath as June Tabor, Karine Polwart and even Sandy Denny.
Album is very good, getting better by the play. I would unreservedly recommend it and her to anybody, folk enthusiast or not.
