The Violet hour is book #1 in the Violet Hour series and the first book I have read by this author.

I was gifted a very beautiful hardback ARC all the way from America to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.

I’m gonna go on about the fact that this is a proper hardback book!!!! I get sent on average about 35 ARCS a month to read, some come from publishers, some from promotion companies and some from authors direct. But this is the first time EVER that I have been sent a proper actual book!!!

It’s beautiful and signed and will now be added to my little stash of goodies.

Ok so back to the actual story lol, there is definitely a heavy twilight influence, and not just in the paranormal subject but also just the vibe and style of the story.

Is that a bad thing you ask??? Well not at all I loved Twilight, this book has an intensity and pureness that amplifies that cool YA paranormal twilightness.

Logan is a bit of a brat, yes lots gets thrown at her but she really could have tried to act slightly more maturely about it all. She had moments of brilliance where she was meaningful and impressively humble. By the end she has started to grow on me and I actually started to find her ridiculousness endearing lol.

Luke is super sweet but I would have loved for some of the chapters to have been his POV so I could have so insight into his thoughts. He plays such a pivotal role that I needed more of his background and thoughts to really round the story out.

I needed much more background on how Logan’s mom and Dad ended up splitting, how everything happened in the first place and also on the bad guys.

I love paranormal books and this story was a great new look at a brilliant subject.

HASH(0x9c9e527c) out of 5 stars Captivating, alluring, mysterious. 13 May 2015
By Cassie H. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Captivating, alluring, mysterious. That sums up The Violet Hour.

I haven't read a paranormal/ werewolf book in year's, but this book drew me in. The overall storyline is amazing. The author takes you on this journey. I absolutely adore all the characters.

Logan is reeling from the loss of her mother. One minute her life is everything a girl could want. The next she's shipped to Wyoming, to live with her father and stepmother. She never knew that the moment her mother passed, something she could never imagine would come to life.

Luke. He will help her, befriend her and is the one person who knows what she's going through. But he's keeping a secret, they all are. One that Logan will soon know about. But what she learns, she would never have imagined. Those things are only in books, right? With this revelation, will come another one. One that Logan isn't ready for. Her life will be forever changed.

I can't wait for the next book. To see where Logan goes, how she copes with everything. I couldn't put this book down. The author writes brilliantly and has you where you feel like you're in the story, right along with these characters. It's an unique storyline. I didn't know what was coming, and new things pop up. It keeps you interested the whole way through. READY DOR THE NEXT BOOK, PLEASE!

HASH(0x9c9e54f8) out of 5 stars Appealing characters and a paranormal romance with lots of surprises 30 Jun. 2015
By Kitty Smith - Published on Amazon.com

I've read a lot of paranormal werewolf stories over the years but this one is one of my favorites. Logan and Luke are great characters with these complex histories and lives that just suck you in. While it's clearly written for the YA crowd I think readers of all ages will enjoy it.

Logan has had a lot to deal with since the death of her mother and being shipped off to live in Wyoming. Overnight she's gone from wealthy, popular California teenager to the new kid in town in the middle of Wyoming. Logan is a strong girl and she adapts, but as she tries to settle in she realizes that something's off about her new home and there's a lot of secrets going on. Luke rapidly becomes her everything, but he's got secrets of his own and this throws a wrench into their romantic relationship. That's part of his appeal though, I mean what girl can resist a guy with a bit of mystery about him?

The story throws a few twists in that take you by surprise, and I love how Wells brings all the emotions through so strongly. Logan is such an appealing character thanks to the great writing and I'm eager to see how this series plays out.

HASH(0x9ef63204) out of 5 stars Not your typical YA :) 28 May 2015

Logan Keller is a California socialite who has suffered a horrific tragedy by the death of her mother. The story opens with Logan just having arrived in Wyoming to live with her dad who she hasn’t seen in 7 years and her step-mother whom she didn’t even know existed. She’s left behind her boyfriend and her childhood best friend and really feels like she’s lost her place in life, her direction and everything she’s ever known. I instantly connected with Logan in these opening chapters, the heartache and despair that this young girl feels over the loss of her mother was just heart wrenching to read! Logan soon discovers that her dad and step-mom have also taken in 3 teenage boys whose own parents died the year before. Logan instantly feels a connection towards the middle brother Lucas and it’s completely believable here, he’s a sensitive, caring boy who I suspect still hadn’t fully recovered from his own parents deaths. He knows exactly what Logan is going through and because of this he manages to be the one person she feels safe with and can open up too. I just loved their connection right from the start! Lucas isn’t without faults though; Logan becomes increasingly confused by his ever changing moods. Logan is convinced that Lucas, and possibly her dad, are hiding something from her and she’s determined to find out what it is!

I absolutely loved The Violet Hour; from the opening sentence to its poetic closure it was perfect in every sense of the word! One of the things I loved most was Logan herself. She is strong, independent and doesn’t take crap from anyone! Even as her feelings for Lucas deepen she continues to push the boundaries of their relationship by demanding honesty and truth, not willing to settle for anything less. I love having this type of heroine in a YA novel; I think most of us are a little burnt out on the helpless damsel in distress types, these are the types of girls I want my teenage daughter reading about :)

Andrea wrote quiet the twisty little tale here so careful, not everything is as it seems! You’ll think you’ve got all the secrets figured out, that you know exactly what’s going on and how it’s all going to end. Well you don’t, and you really won’t and it’s this aspect that makes the story so damn brilliant and satisfying once all the pieces come together!! It is hard to believe that this is a debut novel and I’m so pleased to know that it’s the first in a series of 3 books. Now, I’m a stickler for NO spoilers in my reviews but I feel compelled to at least say….. WooHoo NO CLIFFHANGER ENDING!!!! There are still a few things that we, as well as Logan need answers to by the end of this novel and it’s these unanswered questions that will make you long for book 2 to hurry up and get here! But there is still a full, complete and wonderfully satisfying ending here in which I loved!

The Violet Hour is a suspenseful, exciting, and fast paced thrill ride that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves YA, Paranormal, or Fantasy. It’s suitable for ages 13 & up with Logan being a fantastic role model for girls and teens! This is a book series that I predict mothers and daughters will be fighting not just to read but also over whose come up with the better dream cast ;) I would love to see this on the big screen someday!

“It’s the violet hour; when the day stands at the threshold of night taking a deep breath before crossing over into the darkness…..Casting shades of reds and oranges, yellows and pinks, and that elusive violet purple that assures us tomorrow is going to be even better than today. The silence of the hour leaves us in hushed wonderment as the shadows of life blur into our surroundings until the cloak of darkness wins its battle with the sun. The violet hour doesn’t mean the end of daylight; it means the beginning of night and the promise of tomorrow.”

HASH(0x9c9e560c) out of 5 stars I LOVE IT! 12 Jun. 2015
By Gladys #XOXOtheNerdGirl - Published on Amazon.com

*I was provided this book by the publisher/author for an honest review!!

I was very excited to have the opportunity to read and review this riveting exploration in the life of Logan Keller's world as it tilts to a whole new level and spirals out of control. She is use to being a teen socialite since her mother was a model and her stepfather was a wealthy type guy!! Well with thier passing she had to move to be with her biological father who she hasn't known for a very long time. She leaves behind her rich life and her boyfriend to live in Wyoming to be a father she barely knows, his wife and their 3 "adopted boys". Sounds typical, strange and sad story so far yes?? Well, YES but let's keep going...

She doesn't know what to expect from her father or his surroundings or anything. Everything for her is strange. She misses her mom and misses everything about her life. BUT when things get going and strange things are amiss ESPECIALLY with LUKE. She starts to WONDER. Her strength adds to her character and her mind is quite astute. NOW you ask about the Paranormal part because of course it's not really given to you in the synopsis, or given away in the cover or anything but dare I tell you in my review what or who they are?? If you know me SQUEALLLLLL!!!!! You will know what they are because they are one of my favorite creatures of the night!!

Anywho! The character development was seen through the eyes of Logan. Through her movement and through how she saw each and every detail. The world built with such detail that it can only be added to in the follow up, which better be soon because I did not anticipate that type of ending. Pouts!!!

5 Stars to you Andrea L. Wells for your debut work! I tip my Nerd Girl hat to you!!!

HASH(0x9c23bac8) out of 5 stars I found the book easy to read 27 Jun. 2015
By Heidi Bulman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I was honored enough to receive an advanced readers copy of The Violet Hour. I found the book easy to read, thoughtless in the sense that I didn't have to think a lot while cruising through it (which I like) and an overall adequate read for those who love teenage romance with some suspense. The book is very similar the other werewolf/vampire like romance novels geared around teenagers, but again isn't that what people are reading these days?! I loved the ease of the book and ability to enjoy the story, mostly cause it's based in Wyoming and Andrea does a great job at describing the Wyoming landscape.
Thank you for allowing me follow you on your literary journey I look forward to more!
