Almost all the patterns in this book are good, if you are looking for classic, wearable items in a range of yarn thicknesses (not all 4 ply!). I particularly liked the cardigan patterns, of which there are many. There are also patterns for men here, though only a few. The patterns are very 'French resistance', and the styling too is evocative of the 1940s. There is a range of designers represented here too. The Kaffe Fassett pattern is one of the few 'duds' in the book in my opinion - yet another multicoloured patchwork style man's jumper - 1980s vintage, I think.

This book was a disappointment for me!! Only one or two wearable items in my opinion (the mens patterns are awful!!) Most are a variation on a theme so chances are if you already own any rowan books you may have a very similar pattern already!! Nicely presented and photographed but actual knit content left a lot to be desired!!

This book I have used three times - the patterns are so nice and the sizes are correct. No measuring needing. All result ended up perfectly. I highly recommend all patterns from Rowan and especially this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rowan, Lovely 18 Feb. 2015

Well, I do love all things Rowan, this pattern book has women's, mostly, and men's sweaters, okay there are a couple of scarves too. As with all pattern books you'll have some hits and misses. Everyone has a different take on vintage. However, there is texture and smooth and patterns, so many choices, there are a couple of men's sweaters that, personally, I feel are just as nice for women. I really like Fassett's Origami pattern, for me I'd get rid of the red and pinkish hews (there are 18 different yarn colors) and add more greens, blues and perhaps rusty bits. There is a great Aran inspired Hargreaves pattern in the Yorkshire Tweed yarn in brown, that would look great in almost any color. So I'm glad a have it.

Vintage Style is like most Rowan books, filled with stylish European designs. I am a man who knits and I bought the book for the Jarrett jacket.

3.0 out of 5 stars Vintage Style 23 May 2009

There weren't as many patterns that I would actually consider knitable (personally). I have had this book for a year and still haven't knit anything in it.
