A very useful book that helps one to understand many of the Hebrew and Greek words in the Bible. However, not every word is covered which is a bit annoying and surprising as some of the words are quite important.

It is not a poor imitaion of Strong's distionary and often has far more information that he has.

Although first published some 70+ years ago Vines remains a fine reference work for understanding terms and words used in the bible.

A point worth bearing in mind is that although it does contain Hebrew scripture references they are not as many nor in as such depth as the Greek.

The Greek reference section is superbly laid out. The word is given both verb & noun with the related scriptures next to them + the Greek word applied. If you struggle to find a certain word then you might look to see what the KJV uses as this often will be the word used alongside the RSV. An interlinear using direct Greek with accompanying English is also helpful in tracking down the right word.

The explanations are clear & concise and in no few examples require some thought to see just how the original Greek understanding applies but certainly gets the student thinking and sheds greater light.

Once you get the hang of it Vine's is all but irreplaceable and a very reasonably priced addition to any bible students library.

Very useful tool for Bible study. Very handy to have the Greek words included too. Very bulky but then it's larger print which is better.

I have been using Vine for some time now, I have a number of references works on Hebrew and Greek, and apart from Barclays New Testament words, this is my favourite. In most cases it sticks to the meaning of the word rather than running in personal beliefs of the author, as many reference work do. It is easy to use, with the strong numbering is good to use with green's interlinear bible.

Vines Complete Expository Dictionary of the Old and New Testament is an excellent addition to your reference books. Crammed with clearly laid out information that will seriously help the mature Bible student to search deeper into the meanings of the words in the Scriptures.

A great companion when you study the Bible. It sheds wonderful light on doctrinal words found in the Hebrew/Aramaic and Greek text.

I know very little New Testament Greek. This book enables me to better understand words in their contexts. Together with "Wilson's", it is an invaluable study aid for any minister.
