**This bike is shipped 90% assembled in a sealed box. Inflation of tyres, fitting of pedals, stem, handlebars, wheels, saddle and seatpost are necessary. Gears and brakes may require some adjustment prior to riding. Wheels are computer trued at the factory but these can, rarely, go out in transit and need retruing** There are videos for any setup issues you may have at http://bitly.com/Vilanovideolibrary
**We recommend professional help is sought in assembling a bike . It is a condition of sale that professional help is sought before any returns are made as Vilano bikes have a fantastic pedigree and "faults" are normally a matter of basic setup**

I've had this bike a few months now and I wish I could turn back time and spend a little more on a better bike or went into a store and purchased one after test riding it.
The brakes, gears and bell are atrocious. As stated in other reviews the breaks need constant tinkering, the gears are terrible and the bell does not fit.
If this bike comes damaged in anyway and you notice after or mid-way through assembly it is extremely hard to return or get a refund issued. Their return policy dictates that you have to return it in it's original packaging and condition, which means if you notice damage after you assembly they will not accept the return without proof that you didn't damage it. So before you assemble check over all parts and photograph everything to make sure it is 100%
This also means if you test ride the bike after assembly and realise that the gears don't work well or any other part of the bike is broken they will not accept the return because the bike will not be in its original state.
Save your money for a second hand bike or a bike you can test ride in store.
The seat is surprisingly comfortable, the bike runs smoothly, the delivery was fast and the assembly was quick and easy.
Overall it's a pure black beauty, definitely worth it.
1. The breaks are not the best quality, but for the price you can't complain.
2. The tyres the same, you can get a really easy a puncture. So I've changed mine with gator skin continental
just to avoid the problems. Overal best product for it's value.
A simple solid road bike at a very competitive price, I doubt you will find a better option at its price range.
Black Dog Bikes did a great job shipping it, it very well padded and protected in the box and it also arrive two days earlier than the estimated time of arrival which was a pleasant surprise.
Assembling was quite straight forward if you have any experience with bikes and your own tools, no really surprises, just attach the handle bars, insert the saddle and adjust its height, attached the pedals, bolt the front wheel in place and slip the chain onto a chainwheel. There are a range of reflectors and a bell to attach if you can be bothered (I wasn't), all in all probably a 10-30 minute job depending on your competency. If you don't have tools or experience assembling a bike yourself, Black Dog Bikes includes a small multi-tool along with the Vilano manual, so it is quite easy but if you are not sure, your local bike shot will be happy to help.
It is an unmarked, black bike, with dark chain, cogs and black chainwheels. The only real colour is some white strips on the saddle. The drop down handlebar give it a look of racing bike pedigree even if it not the quickest thing on the road.
Initial Running Issues:
I did find some issues with this bike during my first trial cycle:
1. The front brake was not centred correctly and catching the rim of the front wheel. It was a easy adjustment to properly centre the front brake but a little annoying
2. The front derailleur used to change the chainwheels would shift easily between the Low and Middle chainwheel but refused to shift to the High chainwheel meaning you were limited to 2/3 of your gears. The adjustment took awhile to set the derailleur up to shift easily between all of the chainwheels and is explained in the manual but it is a tricky process.
I enjoyed tinkering with my bikes and getting them to run perfectly but I suspect anyone else looking for the perfect out of box experience will find these two minor issues irritating, there were no glaring issues like untrued wheels and it certainly ridable once you have assembled it.
After I sorted out the above issues, I found it to be a solid road bike, quite light and nippy but nothing special, it is an entry level road bike after all. I like the chunkier road wheels it comes with because I use a couple of gravel trails as shortcuts and like the extra grip there but if you are exclusively on the road you might want to change to road slicks.
Everything seem to run smoothly but I have only been running it for less than a week and I will update if something drastic happens.
The brakes might be a little anaemic but part of the problem is the drop drown handlebar style which have the brakes quite far grab away from cycling upright position, so it takes an extra bit of time to actually get a hold of them. I don't usually use the lower drop down riding position much while cruising in traffic because it lowers your level of vision and traffic light cause you to stop a lot, so I will probably change the handle bar style to a straight or bull horn not a fault of the bike more personal preference and I was aware of this possible issue when buying this bike.
I like it and think it is a decent bike that had a couple of initial issues that can be sorted out and it is good value for the price
Seems quite heavy, i think the original listed weight was just for the frame.
It is however pretty and black with no logo's. Just wish the quality was higher, I will probably go for a brand name next time..
