Product Description

Victorinox Outrider Swiss Army Knife (Red) 09023 VICOUTR

A Victorinox Swiss Army Knife is a combination of solid hand tool and inventive creativity. A characteristic feature of the Victorinox Swiss Army Knife is its multi-functionality, which makes it indispensible for many of life's situations. All Victorinox Swiss Army Knives are made from first class stainless steel and are guaranteed against any defects in material and workmanship.

The Outrider Swiss Army Knife has a large locking blade, a corkscrew, a can opener with a small 3 mm screwdriver, a bottle opener with an automatic locking screwdriver and wire stripper, a reamer/punch tool, a keyring, tweezers, a toothpick and a woodsaw.

These locking knives are extremely robust and lightweight, and are specially developed for the police, fire service and army. The lockable screwdriver is particularly sturdy and well-suited to opening containers etc. The corkscrew is also suitable for loosening knots and storing the mini screwdriver.

Size: 111 mm /4.3/8in long.

Colour: red.

The outrider is one of Victorinox's older style of locking knives. It has a grey sliding switch used to (un)lock the blade instead of a thicker piece sprung metal acting as a liner-lock in the newer versions such as the Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Forester - Black. However, while it doesn't look as secure, the lock should suffice for most tasks. Note that it is the only locking tool in the entire multi-tool (unlike a larger Leatherman multi-tool for example)

This slight shortcoming aside, the Outrider has more tools, namely a saw, small Philips screwdriver and scissors. The knife is under 3 inches long and very sharp and all the other tools are of typical Victorinox high quality.

However, I have a 3 small gripes
1) the Philips screwdriver is quite small and unsuitable for larger screws
2) in order to access the screwdriver, the scissors must but pulled out
3) it lacks a smaller blade like those found in non-locking Swiss Army Knives, used for small detailed work

Overall, the knife is very good in terms of weight size and number of tools. It's only slightly (about 4mm) thicker than the Forester yet packs more useful tools. The tools themselves all swing out easily and snap reassuringly in place. The handle is also nicer to grip than the classic style SAK's. All in all, a recommended buy.

Bought this from Amazon recently mainly on the reviews and price, and i wasnt dissapointed at all.
It is a completely different take on the old S.A.knives with its nylon shaped grips and bigger blades. Also featuring a very handy, easy to use blade/tool locking feature. That being said,it still has the same excellent build quality one has come to expect from these iconic Victorianox knives.
I would say in conclusion, that this is definitely a very usefull addition to the stable of S.A knives already on the market.I believe its aimed more in my opinion though at the true outdoorsman rather than just your average joes pocket knife.

These large bladed Victorinox knives are phenomenal! The blade is larger than that of a standard knife, and they dispense with that weird tiny blade that nobody ever uses, so instantly, the most common use of a knife (cutting stuff with the blade) is superior to that of their standard blades.

The Outrider also has all of the useful stuff (saw, scissors, can opener, corkscrew) but is small enough to slip into your pocket, and not be unwieldy.

It arrived razor sharp and with the usual Victorinox feel of quality and longevity. I've used Victorinox knives for 25 years, and while I've lost a number of them, I've never had one fail on me!

One warning, though; THIS IS A LOCK BLADED KNIFE! Don't drop it in your pocket, forget about it, and go for a wander round Sainsbury's. Under British law, a lock bladed knife is a weapon, and if the police get you there is no defence... You can use it at home, or while out Fishing/Hunting/Gutting strangers in a dark secluded woodland far from civilisation, but don't take it out in public places or you're going to find yourself on the receiving end of the Constabulary...

I've been breaking pocket knives and tools since I was a child and finally Victorinox have produced an almost perfect pocket knife, I say almost perfect because there are a few things that could be altered but mostly it's pretty good, (albeit a bit bulky but the mathematics are inescapable). At long last the main blade locks, (I'd prefer a liner lock but I guess you can't have everything), unfortunately there is no small blade, (which often is the one that does the fine work), the scissors, as always are PERFECT! (The best there are are), the saw is really excellent as is the bradawl. It's a long time since I've used a bottle opener of this type but I'm sure it works as well as it used to. The other tools, screwdrivers, can opener are, as always excellent, the tweezers are, as usual, useless, as is the toothpick, (I don't really want to put this in my mouth after it's been rolling around in my back pocket). Overall I'd rate this as 9 out of 10, which beats everything else apart from the Leatherman Wave, (and these two tools have different aims), with both you'd be equipped for just about everything the world can throw at you, just don't fall into any deep water if you're carrying both as you might have trouble climbing out!

Have had the Outrider for a few months. Keep it on my bedside table and have used it for many tasks. The last was cutting insulation board when insulating my garage.

I carry a smaller non-locking Handyman about day-to-day, but wish I could find a specific reason for justifying the Outrider... But without one sadly not permitted to carry it in public.

I can't knock off a star for this, as the locking blade is really helpful on occasions, hence 5 stars from me.

I have had a similar version of this which was getting a bit tired after ten years and being abused frequently. I went for the outrider mainly because it has scissors which are always handy. the Phillips screwdriver has a smaller head than the usual victorinox and requires the scissors to be extended to allow access to it. a bit odd and the return spring for the screwdriver is really strong and will snap shut on your finger (I can attest to this). The main blade is larger than the norm and locks using a slide on the back of the tool without issue. the can opener works well and the saw is sharp. not entirely sure why they stuck a corkscrew on this outdoors orientated tool and think a normal Phillips in its place would complete an overall excellent package. as per usual on my reviews I remind you that the blade is over three inches in cutting edge and also locks so not legal to carry in the uk but so long as you can justify it (forestry work or professional groundsman for example) and are using appropriately at work and not waving it about in the pub, this shouldn't be an issue
