What is it that makes a bigger knife so much easier to use? Comparing this with an equally sharp 15cm / 6" knife, the 20cm/ 8" blade is so much more effortless: prepping large quantities of veg somehow becomes less of a task and more of a pleasure.
The handle is described by Victorinox as 'fibrox' in reality it is a well textured and extremely comfortable composite plastic. Not as attractive as the identical, but wooden-handled model, this knife is fully dishwasher proof (if you wish). To sharpen, search up the 5* rated Victorinox Knife Sharpener, it is designed to give the perfect 15 degree edge to these knives and works beautifully for minimal outlay.
This 'lightweight' blade is a serious challenge to the heavyweight household brands simply because it does what it's supposed to do at a fraction of the cost. Make no mistake we are talking about the same company that produces the Swiss army knives, they know how to make a durable sharp blade; ( just check out their amazing little tomato knife that can just about cover any kitchen task.)
. This cook's knife comes with a plastic handle and at first sight doesn't appear to make a statement but be assured this knife will gain your respect as you work with it.
It really is a gem.
My partner and I wanted to get some decent knives for the kitchen so after doing some research and finding many people on reddit recommending these, we thought we'd give it a try.
We only bought one initially as we were a big sceptical due to the price (you probably know you can spend much more than this on a knife) but after trying it out for a whole we decided to get some more from the range. Excellent knives, not only are they sharp but they also stay sharp.
We haven't found anything yet that it struggles with, it really does make cooking more enjoyable/easier.
Bear in mind that you should also buy a sharpening steel and maintain that edge every day if you want the best results.
Definitely would buy again for the price
Sharp and accurate straight out of the box and I particularly enjoy the handle. It's a rather strange, rough, hard-rubbery handle that fits well in my hands. I have large hands though so it might not be ideal for people with smaller hands. My wife looks like a child when she has this knife in her hands...Even after 3 months of cutting it's still very sharp and agile. Not too heavy either!
