This doesn't change my review, but I thought I should mention this...several months ago, my watch stopped keeping time accurately; the time was different everyday. I figured out the watch was resetting itself systematically every 30 hours or so. It was really odd. I delt with customer service and they gladly opened a repair inquiry. I shipped it to them (using money out of pocket, but whatever), and after about 2 weeks, I got an email saying that they couldn't fix it, so they would instead send me a brand new watch. They offered me a variation of this watch and a few other models (some actually noticeably MORE expensive than this watch), but since I liked the way my old watch looked and I wanted tide functionality, I just asked for the same model. Unfortunately, it was on backorder for two weeks but, as I was in no rush, I waited. And after awhile, it came. But I was glad as they were very responsive with my emails and I could tell they didn't ignore my repair request. I was spoken to directly, the way customer service should be, but alas, this is probably because Vestal isn't a huge company. Still satisfied with my customer service experience.
Not only does The Brig have built in tides for more beaches than any of the other tide watches out there, it's got a great method for customizing tides to wherever you're at.
The face is a little bigger than I wanted, but it doesn't look bad at all. It's actually a pretty nice looking watch in person. The materials feel much sturdier and higher quality than the Lodown did. The watch also fits better and is more comfortable. Some have mentioned the Octolock strap is uncomfortable, but it seems that it's been redesigned. I actually think it's much more comfortable than the Lodown was and don't have any complaints.
My only complaint is that I prefer the face on the Lodown. But since I bought a tide watch to give me the tides, I'll take the Brig over a Nixon any day.
* Much more default tides than competitors
* Great method for entering custom tides
* High quality construction / materials
* Useful features (two time zones / tides, chrono, timer, alarm, future tides, light)
* A little large, but not a big deal
* Prefer the face on the Lodown
Luckily Vestal does have a 3yr warranty, but I shouldn't be dealing with this three months into owning it. I've missed the return window with Amazon, but contacted Vestal. They email me within 24hrs, I sent the email on a Sunday so I consider this awesome! Erik at Vestal helped me, he immediately sent me the return info then noticed I live close to their Costa Mesa office. Rather than letting it go, he called me immediately and told me that it'd be much faster if I just swing by and he could fix it or replace it on the spot! How sick is that? I was totally bummed on this purchase until dealing with Erik, faulty product does happen everywhere, Vestals customer service has totally redeemed the situation in my eyes!
Only giving a 4 because it did fail, and is a little large.
UPDATE: After emailing Vestal, they immediacy responded and explained that they had some problems with the particular color of this style (bad production lot?) I bought. They sent me a different color (same model), and it seems to work just fine.
