Product Description

Product Description

RAYMOND BLANC is Britain’s most famous French chef, yet he has never cooked professionally in France. In The Very Hungry Frenchman, Raymond finally gets the opportunity to show us the country he loves so much and the French recipes that inspired him. In each episode Raymond will explore the distinctive produce and cuisine of a different region of France, before cooking a menu of traditional dishes for one night only. He will source the freshest ingredients from the people that know them best, show us how to make the dishes, and then together with his young British protégés, put them on the table in a local restaurant.

Will the French be as proud of him as we are?

Raymond Blanc is one of those rare people who's passion and enthusiasm come through so naturally when he is on TV.

This series is in many ways a celebration of this passion.

We finally get to meet Mammon Blanc who is mentioned so often in Raymond Blanc's books.

We also meet interesting people, who are passionate about the food they produce, we see the beautiful French countryside and then of course there are the recipes.

However this is NOT just another cookery programme with step by step recipes, it is a celebration of regional food, and regional food producers.

This is a series that just makes me happy, it inspires me to get cooking and to connect with local and regional food producers and to enjoy life.

It is a real treasure of a DVD.

Very highly recommended indeed.

Peppered with lots of "ooh la las" this is simply delightful. The recipes, although sometimes a little complicated are so worth the effort. The boeuf bourgignon is amazing. There are no extras on this two disc set but that aside it is a set you will play again and again. Looking forward to a second series (please!!!)

Fantastic, really enjoyable series. Far more to this series than recipes, it's about the people, culture & history of the regions of France.

My quesion is... where is the blu-ray version? Cost cutting BBC again I suspect. Hopefully a blu-ray version will be released at a later date.

Second series please Raymond!

I gave copies of this set of discs to half a dozen friends and relatives at Christmas; Why? Raymond Blanc comes over as a cheerful and skilled chef without any hint of bad language or tantrum... The gastronomic tour of the regions of France is fascinating. You see the magnificent landscapes, the equally colourful people of each region and, of course, simply amazing meals. Eating at his Four Seasons restaurant is quite beyond anyone I know, but simply enjoying watching these programmes is a joy. Of all the people we see on television Raymond Blanc is the man I would most like to meet in person; such a warm cheerful personality with such a positive outlook on life.

I once saw one of these episodes (Burgundy) on TV.

It was a pleasure to discover the DVD on Amazon.

I can't believe there are so few programmes in the series! I've already watched them all twice.

My husband and I watched this on TV and both enjoyed it. I bought this DVD for my husband who is French and he's watched it several times. Came home from work yesterday and he was cooking dinner in the kitchen, with this on the TV - inspiration perhaps? A light hearted look at French cuisine. Raymond Blanc makes it interesting to watch if you can just get over the narration of the woman pronouncing his name with the D on the end - obviously silent in French so somewhat frustrating as she keeps saying it. Other than that, would recommend this for anyone who likes French cuisine and looking for somethat that little bit different!
