Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

Despite having the first ever million-selling debut album for a British female artist (for 1993s So Close) Dina Carroll spent most of the 90s out of the spotlight. Hampered by logistical issues of whether she should be marketed as a Celine Dion-style ballad songstress or a disco diva, and her second album being released during the height of indie-infused Brit-pop fever, Dina was savagely forgotten by the mass music-buying public. The Very Best Of charts the story of her roller-coaster career, starting with her 1991 collaboration with dance act Quartz (a cover of the Carole King's "It's Too Late") and ending with her more recent work with Desmond Child and Ronan Keating ("All I Ask"). The collection intermingles the famous ballads ("The Perfect Year" and "Don't Be a Stranger") with the club hits such as "Express" and "Without Love". Also included are tracks from her unreleased third album such as her funked-up cover of "Son of a Preacher Man" and the dancefloor anthem "Good to Me". Now is the time to rediscover the awesome talents of Dina Carroll. --John Galilee

This is a true synopsis of Dina Carroll who is both a soul diva & a disco queen.
There's lots to listen to here for anybody who even has a passing acquaintance with Dina - from "The Perfect Year" to "Ain't no man (Brothers In Rhythm remix").
True enough there's nothing really new (unlike some other "Best Of" compliations....) but it is the perfect album for the car CD player - just stick 'er on, sign along & drive !!

one of the best voices in music its a shame she didn't do more albums, all the songs are here from the fantastic ballad don't be a stranger, to the dance floor, living for the weekend, 18 songs with a second cd of dance mixes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful Diva 20 July 2001
By Simon - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This girl rocks. Born and bred in the UK, she mixes all the class and depth of her home town of Oxford. From Ain't No Man to Don't Be A Stranger, Dina Carroll shows she can produce some clubbed up tunes, as well as the heartfelt ballads. Particular highights are Escaping ( a worldly feel, that constantly escalates until your left panting), Don't Be A Stranger ( A dark ballad provoking your dakest thoughts and fears) and Livin' For The Weekend (Produced by David Morales, a floor-filler expressing the desire to dance). As well as these, there is the stiring version of Perfect Year (from Sunset Boulevard), Someone Like You (cover of Van Morrison's hit, and featured in Bridget Jones Diary), Son Of A Preacher Man and All I Ask (brand new song penned by Ronan Keating). If you want your music classy, sassy and full of emotion. Dina Carroll proves that she is one Powerful Diva.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Overview Of An Underrated Vocalist 24 Jan. 2002
By Chris S. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Though it escaped many, UK vocalist Dina Carroll actually released an album stateside back in 1993 called SO CLOSE. This import BEST OF collects most of the tracks from that album, as well as songs from her UK sophomore album ONLY HUMAN and material from an unreleased third album. It's a shame Carroll didn't get more attention than she did, because she possesses a beautiful voice that lends itself well not only to adult pop, but more dance oriented fare as well. Highlights here include'Escaping','The Perfect Year' and 'Living For The Weekend', as well as two terrific covers, one of Dusty Springfield's signature tune 'Son Of A Preacher Man' and an exquisite reading of Van Morrison's 'Someone Like You'. Fans of first-rate adult/dance pop will not want to overlook this collection.

Wow, was i disappointed by the transaction with this supplier! I ordered on Dec 6 for delivery prior to Christmas and didn't receive the product until Jan 4. I emailed for udates and would only get an automated response saying it had shipped. Clearly it hadn't.

I would NEVER NEVER NEVER buy from this store again - rethinking Amazon too because their Customer Service department did nothing to help.
