Product Description

Product Description

Buddy Holly was a true original, bringing a nerd chic and Texan drawl to the early rock 'n' roll movement that set him apart from fellow greaser contemporaries. His time in the limelight tragically only lasted for a year and a half as Buddy was to lose his life in a plane crash and because of this only three full studio albums were produced, two of which we have included here. Disc 1 includes Holly's eponymous debut which includes the hits 'Peggy Sue', 'Words Of Love', 'Everyday' and 'Rave On'. Other highlights include 'Heartbeat' and 'Real Wild Child' as bonus tracks. Disc 2 features the album Buddy Holly And The Chirpin Crickets which includes the hit 'That'll Be The Day' and it was this album that would prove to be a prototype for so many bands to follow, (most notably the Beatles).

I have been a fan of Buddy Holly since 2008 and the only other album I have of his is 'The ultimate collection' which is an awesome compilation with much of his best material on. This album here was a clear choice for me because it has many songs which aren't on that album. It is called 'The very best of' but I don't agree with that title. It would be better to have called it something less pretentious like 'The Buddy Holly collection' because a lot of his great songs which are featured on the aforementioned album are not on this one and therefore I don't think it deserves the title of 'The very best of'. Some of his best work like Learning the game, Raining in my heart, It doesn't matter anymore, Moondreams, Midnight shift and Love is strange are all absent. This compilation is actually a collection of his first 2 albums (he only ever made 3) with bonus tracks from the time. Disc 1 is Buddy Holly - his debut solo album released in 1958. Disc 2 is Buddy Holly and The chirpin' crickets - released a few months before on a different label. Both these albums have some of his well known tracks with disc 1 having Peggy sue, Everyday, Rave on and Heartbeat, while disc 2 features Oh boy, Maybe baby, That'll be the day (apparently 1 of his first solo songs written which went to number 1 here in the UK) and Early in the morning. The album has a cardboard outer sleeve and interesting inner notes. The CD's look like vinyl LP's which I like.

I just noticed that the track listing differs a bit from the actual CD playlist which is quite shabby. Besides the more popular songs I have mentioned there are some really decent lesser known tracks of Buddy's on this collection album which as I've said is what attracted me to it in the first place.

I was delighted when I played the remastered songs. Brought back memories of the 50s and 60s with a quality that wasn't possible on the record players of the time.

This album is the best of a legend, Buddy Holly.
Every track has something about it which brings back great memories while at the same time making you think about the influence this wonderful artist had on the music that followed.
If you are a fan of Buddy or just of this era of music it is a must buy.

Very good number of tracks for the money, nice cardboard outer sleeve. Many lesser known tracks and all the fave's. Only problem is that on CD1 some of the tracks are in a different oredr to the track list on the box which can be annoying, otherwise I am very pleased and can't stop playing it!

a life all too tragically cut short, but this is what he left us, everyone of those fabulous tracks. I for one believe had he lived he would definitely have been bigger than Elvis or the Beatles, every track is years ahead of anyone of that time and the majority are TiMELESS, which is what they should have called this class act of an album. Give this to any young person about to start learning the guitar and R&R and they will have a great foundation to work from

All the best Holly tracks - the well-known ones as well as some gems that I'd not heard before. There are only a few tracks that are generic 50s rock and roll, and they're still okay; overall a fantastic purchase.
