Veronica Bowerman developed an interest in writing when living in Henleaze, Bristol UK.
She has published six e-books and three paperbacks to date:
2016 - (sixth e-book) HENLEAZE CONNECTIONS: SOME FASCINATING FOLK AND FACTS
2017 - NB In response to requests this has now been published as a paperback edition as well.
2016 - (fifth e-book) SHORT BREAKS. WE ALL NEED THEM: VALUE FOR MONEY IDEAS - tried and tested short breaks taken during the past three years throughout the UK and Europe, all with a limited budget.
2015 - (fourth e-book) ST MARGARET'S: MEMORIES, MUSINGS AND MERRIMENT - includes some evocative and fun memories from more than 30 "old gels."
2014 - Her second e-book entitled HENLEAZE JUNIOR SCHOOL - THE EARLY YEARS was published in Spring, 2014. It covers the years when the school first opened in the early 1950s until the early 1980s and makes fascinating reading!
This was followed her third e-book in the Summer by AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 YEARS: RETIREMENT CAN BE FUN! A true story of a self-funding two year holiday which opened a lot of doors in the 1970s to newly retired, Vera.on a limited budget.
2012 - Her first e-book THE HENLEAZE BOOK was produced through Google.
2013 - funding was secured for the printing costs of The HENLEAZE HERITAGE TRAILS. This free leaflet is available from Henleaze Library or Kondi's, Henleaze Road for visitors and residents to enjoy on foot the many, often hidden, delights of the area. There is also a pdf file that can be printed out on the website below:
2015 - funding was obtained for the WESTBURY ON TRYM HERITAGE TRAILS. Free copies of the leaflet are, at present, available through local shops and libraries.
2012 - more local history information for Henleaze has also been generated through the Henleaze Book Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/henleazebook
It was during the 1970s Veronica started visiting properties of historical interest in the area and talking to the residents. The Henleaze Society were looking for items for their newsletter to interest their members so Veronica then produced many articles for them until the late 1980s. A friend then jokingly said "why don't you write a book?"
It was thanks to the help of many local residents, particularly Ron Lyne and Sylvia Kelly, that the first paperback edition of THE HENLEAZE BOOK was produced in 1991 and the second in 2006.
The HENLEAZE BOOK is full of anecdotes and personal memories rather than dry history - created, as it says itself 'by residents and lovers of Henleaze.' (Bristol Evening Post)

Veronica feels that local history is like an onion - there is always another layer! She regularly updates The Henleaze Book website with the latest local and social history in the area.
2015 - ST MARGARET'S: MEMORIES, MUSINGS AND MERRIMENT was also published as a paperback but as a very limited edition. It sold out, but is available as an e-book.
2017 - HENLEAZE CONNECTIONS has also been published as a paperback version in response to requests.
