The singing was superb, and the libretto heightened the experience.
Well done and keep up the good work. What a treasure

4.0 out of 5 stars The best Lisbon TRAVIATA 9 Dec. 2009
By Melomane (aka A.B.) - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This 1958 TRAVIATA being too well known to require a new review, I will only alert other Amazon customers that it comes from a source different from that of EMI's inferior tapes. This Myto release has the same superior sonic quality as the Pearl issue (perhaps the same source), though far less expensive than the latter. The only reason I've deducted a star is that, annoyingly enough, the prompter's constant groaning is more ubiquitous here than on EMI. If you don't own a Callas Violetta, this is the recording to have, though I still prefer her 1955 La Scala performance on account of Bastianini's Germont and di Stefano's Alfredo. Let's hope a better source of the Milan recording than the EMI (acceptable sound) surfaces soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitive Edition Of Lisbon Traviata! 23 May 2009
By Joaquim Sousa - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is IT!! The definitive edition of the famous Lisbon Traviata by Maria Callas!! Forget those other editions from other labels (EMI, Pearl). This is the one copied from the RDP Limited Edition long gone (only 2000 copies were made, straight from the master tape, not sold to the public, were gifts...!!!). It has a special speech from Maria Callas to the Portuguese public.

It has perfect sound, crystal clear sound. And Callas? ... What a performance!! Listen the final note from "Sempre Libera", it will blow you away!!

Whith the sound quality of this Myto Edition you finally realise why this recording is a landmark on Callas performances.

1.0 out of 5 stars Legendary performance undone by engineering 25 Mar. 2012
By Kiu O. Chu - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is the first pressing issued by EMI of the Scala live radio broadcast of Traviata with Callas, di Stephano and Bastiannini. It is a superlative performance by the trio of singers but EMI's engineers have made the sound so stringent that I could not recognize it as the same performanace I have on the much better sounding Cetra label. Get this for the packaging only. It includes the libretto and notes in english. Replace the disks with those from the Cetra pressing which has no english notes or pictures.
